I don't know if this is the place to ask this question. I am looking for a chair to be used for the main listening position in my listening room. If anyone in the forum can suggest any, I would be grateful

A different take on listening chairs this one..

Just today morning I was checking some bamboo chairs which could be used for relaxing. These chairs come in various shapes and sizes. There are rockers and inclined ones. I found them to be very relaxing and you can keep any cushioning on top of them to adjust to your need.

Yes they are "raw" and "organic". This was the reason I was attracted to them in the first place. Would go very well especially if you are inclined towards the classical side. I find them very aesthetic.

Another point is they have a minimum footprint and hence would not interfere much with the listening room acoustics.

They don't cost a bomb either. Should be around 3K range.

For listening room I presume you would like to have something that:
1. Is least obstructing - they have a pritty open construction and hence you have minimum obsruction while sitting which I prefer.
2. Easy to place and maneuver
3. Aesthetically pleasing
4. Configurable (The bamboo ones don't have adjustability for height/angle of recline though but you can always do that by placing cushioning/etc)

Then you may have the audiophile versions.. which I have no idea of :)

Just thought of posting this since just today morning I tried them :)
I saw something like this and this that could rock.

This is very old school style. Something that appealed to me a lot especially if the music is of that era/genre. :)

Enjoy your music :)

Denom's post looks nice

both the parts of the chair can be used individually too if needed, if a friend like me drops by :)

Sir

from this weblink
Search for Recliner at Pepperfry.com

select your preferred chair, of select any chair for other web-link too if you like, and a friend of mine will built exactly same , with much good quality materials, inside & outside at very reasonable price, he is located in Hyderabad

And if this goes for a grop buy then we can save even more ...

However it will take considerable amount of time , if he is busy doing other project, however i can ask him .

Regards

Tanoj

Modern armchairs - Quality from BoConcept

Some options are given here;

You can try them out @ the store @ Palladium - Parel [Mumbai]

There are lots of options like this :-

Girl Meets Chair: Areol Leonard: Lobster Chair, and a Hipster Office Space

The Question is what is the space available & what do you want to spend ?

All the Best !

Love the Eames chair....but I went with Bourourllec brothers' armchair.

But it sits on a crate to lift it to the right ear height.

By the way, how does one insert a picture rather than a link to a picture please?

2 ways:

1. Save the image in your HFV account Album - Then copy the link - When posting, click on the picture tab and insert the copied link

2. Save the image at an external location like imageshack Etc and then copy the direct image link and when posting, click on the picture tab and insert the copied link

Cheers...

Thanks a lot to you guys for such fast response. I have got lots of ideas from your post. My only worry is that height should be adjustable if you change speakers as your ear level should be just below tweeter. Of course, one can always use cushions to adjust height.

Dear Mr Jacob, I can tell you in my opinion getting the height right is the most important criteria and also is the most difficult thing to manipulate in a chair. In most of my systems the quality of the sound and sound-stage definitely changed.
I usually like to be between the tweeter and mid-range units in terms of height personally.

You are right. The height is very critical. For the time being, I have no intention of changing my KLH model 5s. So I must find chair to match the height for it .. Since I will be playing only vinyl, I will be getting up from the seat quite frequently. So i should be looking for something which should be comfortable to get up from time to time.

The problem with most of the designer chairs is the extremely high cost. Most models start at $2000. There's a Design Within Reach shop near my house that stocks many of the models and I've tested (experienced?!) many of them. Despite the name of the shop, the prices are such. In fact, the most affordable of the lot without getting into the moulded plastic territory is the Paulistano. It is surprisingly comfortable to sit on. Considering the simple minimalistic design, one could conceivably get it hand made in India. And I guess if one was just making it for themselves, it could still be considered ethical practice.

I'm not sure, but I guess a decent height adjustable option might be a good quality office chair. Perhaps, one of those "director chairs" as they're cheesily called?
