Guys what would be ideal speaker stand height, considering we keep changing the speakers position, furniture.

Personally, I would be changing my speakers postion very often and furniture is not always at the same height.

Most of the stands are 24 inches including screws at the bottom. What is the safe bet ?

Well it depends purely on the speakers you have as well as your listening position height .

Your ears should be in line with the tweeters. So on the basis of that

Sit on your couch and measure the height from the floor to your ears.
Lets assume 32 inches

On the basis of which bookshelves you have calculate the height of the speakers from bottom to the middle of the tweeter
lets assume 8 inches

So the height of the stands should ideally be
32 - 8 = 24 inches.

Quick question, just because it came to my mind. Have not done much reading specific to it yet.

What about speakers with the tweeter below, like MTM arrangement

there is no one answer to this question

tweeter at ear height is just a general thumb rule - there are loads of speakers or setups that defy this

You will truly only know after listening ( the luxury that many dont have, i agree)
it does depend on your room too
How the speaker reacts to that room/setup

one should always remember a couple points
when one sits upright on a couch most times ear height comes to 40 inches
but then you should always remember - this is not always true practically
while listening to music for long you always tend to lean back, slouch etc
you loose 6 inches at times and you hit 34 close to as flash has rightly said

this is the reason why surrounds are taller

another important point that has been noted is that port position also affects the stand height
port position is related to how the bass loads and sounds
IN many cases - the higher up the port - the lower bass you get - but gain soundstage and "air"
(again rememebr surround speakers- what i said earlier - they are higher for this reason too!)
(and therefore people with subs in the stereo setups have the luxury of going higher)

there is a compromise here

@teerthankar
arup and i feel 25 is right for you- for exactly the above reason

then theres another factor of rake to consider for listeners who tend to use this
