Finally I could find people coming from US and Singapore in a weeks time, so pls advice which 3D Blu ray player is best.

I have no budget restrictions.

main requirements

1. 3D viewing
2. 2D to 3D conversion
3. Wifi enabled

TIA

basically it enhances the depth perception,i dont think you can get "objects coming at you 3d" with 2d-3d conversion

Actually, the conversion allows you to select an option, where it can either bring the objects in front of you or add more depth to the scene. So, yes, it can pop objects at you. But like any other conversion, it may have its own artifacts. I have seen it at my friends Panasonic Plasma and it works okay, more like gimmicky. Looks better on video feeds (shot with 30 frames/sec), soap opera etc. Not so good looking on film and movies.

theoretically, 2D to 3D can be done. Like 5 channel surround sound from 2 channel input. I saw a demo of sony tv doing that. However, practically, it leaves a lot to be desired.
I found that demo like 2D objects placed in different z-order. The individual objects, like a floating fish itself looked 2D.

Theoretically, you cannot convert 2D to 3D. 3D has to be shot with two or more cameras.

Cheers

Does Oppo 93 has 2D to 3D conversion ? I checked few websites but no where it is mentioned.

One of the best players for 2D to 3D conversion is Sammy BD D6700. I have it and certainly works well and, though I don't have Panny BDT 210/310, I've read reviews that basically say that Sammy is streets ahead of Panny in that aspect. So, if that feature is important to you, go for Sammy BD D6700. if not, Panny 210 (if you have a 3D capable AVR) or 310 (if you don't have a 3D capable AVR and need 2 HDMI Outs on the BDP) or of course, as suggested, Oppo BDP 93/95, which are in a different league.

One basic question to OP - Don't you have 2D to 3D conversion in-built on your 3D TV? I have seen it working well from TV instead of straining the BRP and HDMI cable to run FS 3D instead of the original 1080p or lower content!

You have one player, no comparison and you declared him the winner :) Sounds like USA declaring their domestic league champions as world champions.
Samsung uses DDD gen 1 2D-3D conversion and is quite poor. I evaluate lot of video processing IPs as part of my job and Samsung is probably a middling performer. So far I will recommend LGs 2D to 3D conversion for most contents. Panasonic is so-so as they were not really interested in 2D to 3D initially and got in to the spec game because of the Koreans. I think there are better players coming in 2012 which will have Gen 2 conversions that are better. But end of the day all are quite gimmicky.
Oppo BDP-93/95 does not have any 2D to 3D conversion. May be they will have it in the next gen BD player but they are more inclined to have better 3D video processing rather than conversion.

James Cameron spent more than a year and still the 3D conversion process of Titanic is going on. Harry Potter last movie took around 9 months to do a conversion from 2D to 3D. George Lucas said it took more money just to convert Star Wars Episode 1 (releasing in 2012) than it originally cost to make it and the whole process took about a year..

Do the math. 2D-3D conversion in realtime is nothing more than a lame gimmick and does not seem to improve in the near future unless they make some remarkable breakthrough in technology.

Cricfansd - I only said that Sammy is way better than Panny (I didn't say LG) according to reviews from people who've seen both. I also said, it's one of the best for 2D to 3D conversion, not THE best one around. Which LG model you think is better in this aspect?
