Immediate help needed: Marantz PM6003 or PM6004

Hi All,

The recent Hyd hifi meet has really spoilt me in every possible way and i'm completely bitten by the stereo set ups.

My dad is currently in Singapore and is coming down on Sunday, so have limited time in selecting one of the these Marantz 6003 or 6004 (unfortunately couldn't audition them in hifi meet and have no time to visit useless showrooms in hyd).

My idea is

1. Get one of these two 6003 (6003@ 320SGD and 6004@430SGD)
2. Buy speakers eventually and connect to my mac book pro for time being
3. Also has options of connecting to AC ryan HD or Ipods

Pls help which is better of these two and how much difference it makes in taking 6004 over 6003

My friend had bought PM 7004 China Make for S$540 and Japan Make for S$720 from Alpha Audio, Slim Lim 1 month back.

By the way where are you getting PM6003 from? Please share details.

SGD 540 is pretty sweet. My partner is heading to HK on the 9th. will see if the prices are on par, if it is then will get it picked up from there or else Singapore

Did your friend noted any difference between China and Japan Make , Other than the price.

go for 6004 if the difference in price doesnt make a difference to you.

BTW, you may not notice much sonic difference between the two..

HFV, has a decent deal on the Marantz 5003CDP.. that would be a nice companion to the 6003 / 6004.

ofcourse, feel free to go for digital sources if you wish..

Unfortunately he did not had time for auditioning. Now both models are being used by different people.

I am not sure you closed on your choice or not I may choose 6003...the major difference in 6004, Marantz made improvements in the Mid-frequency which adds more clear and brighter vocals...yes that may compromised in low-end bass which is well known with 6002 or 3 so go for 6003. If you are a classical lover then 6004.

Dont' be stingy on the source. Get a CDP too. A lower priced amp + cd player is better than a higher priced amp + cheap source.

Think this is a spot on piece of advise. From my experience, Marantz amps tend to be a bit week on the mid-range front.
