hi ,

i plan to import Polk RM 6750 with subwoofer and yamaha rx v 371 on my return trip to india. its tough to carry subwoofer and i can consider it leaving it at my sister's home. Any suggestions ? i will be getting these with me on my return trip. advice also sought on how to deal with customs if needed.

Yes check the Indian Prices - Polks and Yamahas have comparable pricing in India vs $ pricing . Add warranty benefits also. Ofcourse US has lots of clearence sales.

If your total investment is under 35k in Indian currency, then there shouldn't be a problem. Only concern would be packing them well to avoid damage during transport and any extra charges levied by the airlines for extra weight and space.

Just 5 days back, I brought Yamaha 473 from Finland. It cost 21 k compared to 32 k in India. I did have great options for speakers (Dali sensor costing 10 k for bookshelves) but I decided not to buy because of weight and custom requirements. 35 K is the limit so bringing either receiver or speakers will be just fine. I don't want to pay weight or custom charges.

For the packaging, please make sure the manufacturer packaging is not disturbed. The AV receiver was fragile, so I was worried. But nothing happened for the unit (Though my flight got changed in the last minute and the luggage has gone through unprofessional handling in Delhi. I could see the bruises on my bag).

Now you need to make a decision on taking the risk (warranty, etc) . Go for it if the cost difference makes some sense!
