Hi All: I have onkyo HT-R670 receiver as part of my HT-S6200 HTIB. I have three movie sources : PS3 for blu ray (US), a DVD player and PCH 210. All these 3 equipment fall under DVD/BD input selector category in my AVR.

I have connected all these 3 devices to AVR's 3 HDMI in and AVR's HDMI out is connected to my TV's HDMI port.

The problem is if want to watch a blu ray I need to go HDMI input setup and under input selector i need to reassign the HDMI number for DVD/BD. I need to do this every time i move from one source to another since these 3 devices are connected to different hdmi inputs.

Till now this was fine , now i have a harmony one remote and not sure how i can program this as sequence.

Anyone have similar setup? please suggest me a way to get around this.....

This is not true. What you are doing is stone age and tiresome.

You can set any Input Selector to any HDMI Input.

For example
PS3 for blu ray (US) is connected to HDMI1 input
DVD player is connected to HDMI2 input
PCH 210 is connected to HDMI3 input

Then in AVR HDMI settings, you can set
BD/DVD to HDMI1
CBL/SAT to HDMI2
GAME to HDMI3

Then
to watch PS3 for blu ray (US), just press BD/DVD on remote,
to watch DVD player, press CBL/SAT on remote,
to watch PCH 210, press GAME on remote.

I got that , thats what I have been doing. But the problem is my AVR has only one BD/DVD. So at any given time only one HDMI input can be assigned. I want my PS3, Popcorn Hour and DVD player to be assigned to BD/DVD, since i use all these 3 to watch movies. So if I am watching a blu ray in my PS3 and wanted watch a movie from pop corn hour i need to change BD/DVD input frm HDMI1 to HDMI2......

The reason i want them all in BD/DVD is i don't get certain preset sound options in other categories like games......for example if I assign PCH to games, one of the audio option i get is "First person RPG" which is not applicable for a movie....

Am i overdoing this?

Manny,

Not sure of the model of your Onkyo, but on my receiver (806) i have seen options to rename the input channel name and also to assign the input HDMI ports to each one of them. Can you try renaming a channel (say AUX)and assigning an HDMI input to that?

Only thing is that you will need to use which button on the remote to select the appropriate device.

took a look at the owner's manual for your model and found that HDMI IN1 is BD/DVD and IN2 is VCR and IN3 is cable by default.
if you connect as follows

IN1 - BD
IN2 - DVD
IN3 - PCH
use the appropriate button on your remote to switch between these sources as DVD/BD will show you BD output and selecting VCR will show you the DVD output and CABLE will show the PCH output

After all what is there in a name ;-)

Thanks Seby_V....yeah i agree nothing in the name. Since I'm a novice and i was wondering if these settings BD/DVD, AUX will affect the way the AVR process the input content? If not then i really dont care.

So if i use AUX for my PS3 my BD output quality will not suffer right? So this is what i'm planning to use...

BD/DVD - PCH (since mostly i watch movie here)
VCR - My DVD player
CBL/SAT - Tata Sky
Aux - PS3....

Thanks again for your help....

The multiple HDMI Ins are for convenience and the internal processing is all the same. Just rename the inputs to what you have connected and you re through.

Cheers

If your PCH is connected to games, its not mandatory to set listening mode in game. Try with listening mode in movie. Though on screen it will show game PIIz or game neo its all same. You are not missing any audio option :)

Thanks all for your inputs :-) sorry going MIA , was down with fever. Just got a chance to get back online. Cool, its just fancy names, nothing changes the way the audio/video gets processed. All set now, will tune my Harmony one accordingly. thanks again.
