i purchased a PS50C6500 back in april 2011. since dec 2012 its not been working, samsung first said that the panel was faulty and brought 5 new panels of which all but one were defective. the one that did work highlighted issues with the motherboard.samsung has been unable to fix the TV since dec 2012 and are probably going to offer a refund or a BER.
has anyone been through this??
whats the best thing i should do in such a situation?
do they provide replacements or refunds

Refund refund refund first

Like I said in some other thread, it is a good spot to be in provided you take the refund.

And then you can cherry pick from the latest 2012 2013 models!

If refunding, they most probably are gonna offer an amount on depreciation i think, not the purchase price, since the set is out of warranty. Try to get written options from them, and then choose accordingly. If they are willing to offer a current gen TV as replacement, and u are fine staying with the Samsung stable, that should be fine as well.

Regards

thanks guys..... i bought the set for around 80k in april 2011 how much do you think theyll offer?
also do you think its a good option to stay with samsung or should i shift brands? any good recomendations on 50 inch plasmas?

Panasonic 50ST50 or their higher GT or VT series for movie viewing. Sony hx850 or hx950 led if interested are the best ones out there.

I remember reading somewhere that Samsung calculates depreciation as 18% per annum. So for your 2 year old TV, you should get 51.2K. I would recommend, as others said, to take refund. So that you can audition and choose the TV you like. I would recommend a Samsung TV considering their good customer care and after sales service though.

If you don't mind buying samsung again then get the 50" E8000, although i am not sure if this television is available on stock.

You can also look at Panasonic GT or VT.

Since you already lived with a plasma for long i don't think you will be satisfied with any kind of LCD.

Well samsung is little notorious with refund claim.... (from my experience: took ~4+ months for refund)
- they will keep your complaint open and delay it till april'13, to depreciate its value for 1 more year.
- though its 18% percent per year but the way they calculate the same is something I could not understand and was always less than what my calculations says.

^That is quite unfortunate because i know a friend who has got his refund in 20 days from the date they promised for a refund.

thanks guys im still awaiting a quote on the refund. i think theyl reduce around 33%. i was hoping to get the e8000 but cant get it since its sold out. what other tvs can i buy for around a lakh that are good?? i like the smart tv features the samsungs come with and dont really mind buying a samsung again, but would prefer a panasonic or sony. your thoughts?

Get the 50" E550 or the UT50, both and good value for money and offer good HD and SD picture.

UT50 has better blacks but E550 has better picture processing.

Get the Wharfedale EVO 4.2 3-Way Standmount Speakers at a Special Offer Price.
