Hi All Champs,

I am new , so want to ask a question :

Is AVR or speaker makes excellent sound ? I know both play their role.

I have Sony HT IV-300, it has good speaker (specially woofer is very good) but I think AVR is not good I heard some distortion while watching movies on Z Studio and Movies Now (not on star movies) using vediocon D2H , So I want to change the AVR and planning to buy Denon X500.

will it be good step to use sony speaker (of HT IV-300) with denon x500 ? Will it create good sound , of course later when budget allow, I will buy BA xs.51.

every AVR and speakers have their own characteristics..definitively a good combo will only give good sound..
I dont think sony speakers u mentioned work well with denon x500 (U need to check the specifications of speaker with x 500 spec requirement). The subwoofer is a active type (powered ) used for denonx500.
U better plan with x500 & ba xs5.1..

No its not advisable to do this. You must add decent speakers to a proper avr. You must buy denon avr only when you have the budget for speakers with it. Do not connect sony htib speakers to any dedicated avr for that matter

Thanks Rajith & Rayvonne for your valuable advise, I will buy combo of Denon X500 + BA xs5.1 later once my budget will allow.

You are jumping to the wrong conclusions. You say you heard distortions in Z Studio and Movies Now and not on Star Movies. If I read this right, the distortion is coming from the source.

The only way to confirm where the distortion is being created is by a process of elimination. Use Blu-ray player, and see if you distortion. If you don't, your TV source is bad. If you have then you have go down the line, eliminating cables, the amp, and the speakers.

Follow a logical process to find out where your problem is.

Cheers

Yes you are right, I am using Videocon D2H ,on star movies HD and star gold HD, there is no noise/distortion , sound is very clear, but on some HD channels sound is not good, so I was thinking branded AVR like Denon automatically remove the distortion if any.
Can you please tell me about sound quality of Tata Sky HD, it is same as Videocon D2H, on most Hd channels sound quality of D2H is very bad

Hi Amit
Not sure but my VD2H sound quality is quite good and I do get DD 5.1 audio. Pl check if there is any other issue. Also when you mention sound quality not good is it noise/ distortion or you are not getting DD 5.1?

I am getting DD 5.1 but not on some HD channels like Z Studio, in Z Studio i can hear audio from left and right speakers.
On Movies Now I got DD 5.1 but sound quality is not as good as in Star Movies, I hear some noise/distortion like wind is blowing...

No it does. An amp does not remove distortion. It just amplifies it!! There is no way an amp can differentiate between noise and signal. You might have read about SNR of AVRs. That goes to specify the amount of noise they create themselves in comparison to the incoming signal. They will not, and, are not meant to filter out or decide what to do with the incoming signal, other than simply amplifying it.

This is a typical 'out of tune' case. Your STB is not latching on to the signal with enough power and focus. Call your DTH operator and ask him to adjust the antenna. Also check your cables between the STB and the AVR. Low quality cables can add noise to a weak signal.

Adjusting antenna will not work because If I am getting good sound on few channels(Star movies,Discovery) but not on other channels then it means it the source( D2H ) problem , that's why I was asking if someone has already compare the sound quality of D2H and Tata Sky HD , I found on net that sound quality of Tata Sky Hd(including SD channels) is much better than D2H...

It is a question of how well the antenna picks up the signals. It may need just a minor adjustment. It I remember right, the service guys have an instrument to measure signal strength at the antenna. In addition, also get your antenna checked. If it is rusted or has holes, it will again create issues.

Remember, you have to start a process of elimination to identify the issue. There is no guarantee if you change the DTH provider, your issues will disappear. First identify the exact issue, then take the next step.

Signal is good, I have already got checked by service guy some days ago, it is D2H problem, even service guy told me that me that sound quality of Tata Sky is good than D2H and he listened himself. That's the reason I started this thread want to confirm this that is really sound of Tata Sky is good than D2H ??

Most important elements for the sound quality are speakers then sub woofer, then room correction and then quality of source music then quality of the amp then cd then wires. Of course I am assuming the your amp will be used without clipping. Amp distortion is generally less in any case.
