Is it a good idea to get a Sub Woofer from London?

I am travelling this month end in a group and I guess weight is not an issue and I will be able to utilise the max free limit of 30Kg entirely for the Sub

So my queries?
1)Is it worth while to consider this option as in all probability I will not get warranty. My thinking is that if I get over 35% discount on Indian prices it's worthwhile - takes care of customs and loss of warranty risk.
2) If you agree, what subs do you recommend for integrating with a stereo system for music in a room size of 22'x18'
3) My amp does not have LFE out hence the sub should have high level inputs with crossover setting and may be a low pass (optional)
4) I am not interested in high bass and will be happy if the sub integrates with my speakers seamlessly.
5) budget - flexible - around Rs60 K.

I will be thankful If any one can point me to specific stores/ brands available in London

Hi

As far as I remember, Electronics is expensive in London and am not sure if it is the right thing to do. Customs, Airline Charges etc and the most important warranty play an important role.

There are ample subwwoofers available in India which you can check out at various Home Theatre dealers around you. A simple google search would result in the 10 best subs for 2014 and you can shortlist models of your choice depending on size and budget.

Since your system does not have LFE out, you would require the sub with the Speaker High Level connections which are present on a few select subs...You may want to look at Velodyne Impact 10 or 12.

Before you travel, find out the rates here and then check the rates in London and take a call...

All my experience with many subs - poor and supposedly good - leaves me with the conclusion that for music, one gets bass at the cost of integration losses and a denuded sounding mid range. For my music tastes, not a fair exchange at all. Save the money and use it for a speaker upgrade if you are not happy with yours, based on your 4 above. Or use the money to experience more of London.

I have a SVS Sb12nsd, and am very happy with it. I use it only for movies but I have tested it out in my 2 channel setup and it did an excellent job, perhaps due to the fact that it is sealed. I agree with Sawyer that integrating a sub for a 2 channel system is not entirely desirable, however you can get this sub in India for your budget, so why lug anything from overseas?

That is YOUR expereince , not the end of the world , so why force on others? Even NOT knowing what are his music / movie tests why run to conclusion? I heard some good integrated subs , also in bass heavy music like Metal , EDM , Dubstep , hip Hop sub becomes necessary...

UK is all about offers and deals all the time. the toughest thing is you have to search and find a best deal. Do start search from any local store in your area.

The thing is that very few audio recordings are done in a way that HT is done. The latter has a dedicated channel for the sub in the recording mix. And very rarely in movies do the sub effects and mid range effects like regular music and dialogue happen at the same time, so the sub sounds rarely overpower these.
Full range speakers are designed to work as standalone pairs and this makes the integration very hard to achieve. For music with driving bass lines, this isn't noticed as much as it is where bass is a supporting anchoring role. Important, but only as an anchor to the midrange.
I would look for a sub for music only if the main speakers are the small sealed boxes of the LS3/5 sizes, but even here, only based on music tastes, and only after a combined audition in the home.

Agree with sidvee. SVS is one of the best subs you could consider and it is available in India in yr budget. SVS is normaly sold online in US.

Thanks for all the suggestions and sorry for the late response - got tied up with some urgent work yesterday.

-I agree that adding a sub to a 2.0 system for listening to music may not add value -especially when my Fronts are decent floor standers with 6" bass drivers. But there is always a but , may be ----!!. In any case I use the same fronts for my HT and Stereo and I do not have a Sub. So while adding a Sub I would like to add one which is musical ,a sealed sub.
- Also I am inspired by FM- Shivam's experience . See http://www.hifivision.com/speakers/51665-low-bass-music-sub-no-sub.html
- Having said that - Yes good subs are available here in India - but I guess it becomes worthwhile to take the extra trouble and risk if I get a 35 % to 40% discount over local prices. BTW I do have the option of getting a Sub from US also.

So need suggestions, pointers . Thanks

Can you recommend any specific stores. I guess I have sufficient time to roam around and have a Travel card :)
