We all know that something that can beat a plasma in blacks is the OLED.
LG has slashed the price of 55EA9800 to 3L and it might be available at far lower prices.
With my failed attempt to acquire a ZT60, this TV appears to be a good choice for me.
Only worried about Motion issues.
Anybody who already owns this set or knows about it, please share your thoughts. Thanks.

Just a think, Dirac.

After burning your hands on a ZT60 (Which still burns my heart!) why not buy a OLED 4K TV instead of a normal FHD at these price levels?

Given that the OLED panels are still in their infancy, and different problems are being ironed out, why be a first adopter and spend your hard earned money on it?

If you go through the reviews (the links above) there are still some problems to be sorted out, why not wait for a really good OLED and then invest? Till then go on with a good ole FHD whatever you want and save that money on a premium TV?

Just my thoughts, please do not take offense.

I don't own an OLED TV, but I do own a couple of AMOLED Mobiles. Currently I am only worried about the life of the OLEDs. The most likely problem to occur is that the screen will become dirty due to uneven aging of each individual cells. The cells showing black will age less when compared to cells which are Turned On.

Other than that, If it was me, I will buy the 8500 plasma and view it happy for a minimum of 2-3 years and by then the Plamsa would be obsolete and OLEDs would be matured, Better, and dropped in price.( all the panel aging issues would also be reported by then )

Let OLED mature. What praises we see now may just be due to the initial hype and excitement.

Settle for a good locally available plasma like 64F8500. I was watching Star Trek Into Darkness the day before and was extremely satisfied with the picture. Pop and amazing shadow detail. LCD like picture rather than the cinematic Panasonic I had. No complaints though as that's what you will get with OLED.

OLED in 4K on a large screen is what you should eventually buy (taking a hint reading your sad but enthusiastic posts about failed ZT). I do not trust LG. They may be the only manufacturer right now with in-store OLED credentials but I would rather wait for Samsung or Sony to join the party.

dirac, in one of your post i remember you have expressed your dislike towards oled in your samsung device....this clearly shows that you are a huge fan of plasma technology because of its realistic picture rendition....so why don't you take a demo of the samsung 64f8500 and decide whether to buy or not....the blacks will definitely be very deep since it is a flagship model...and you should understand one thing that brightness is very important to have in a tv because all the colours and the whites will pop out of the screen.....even panasonic officials have confirmed this when they were launching their 4k leds AX series...
if you are not still satisfied then take a demo of the lg oled....who knows you may like it...regarding 4k,there is no availability of 4k bluray or 4k tv channels now...it will take several years for such source material to come to our country....and 8k...it will take ages....my suggestion would be to go for the latest technology and the best technology ...the OLED .....if you are not happy with samsung 64f8500....

Thanks guys for all of your posts...
You all concur on one point.
OLED is still immature.
Heard posts that say that Blue oled ages more quickly that the red and green,
This will have peculiar effect in the long run.
Also it seems within 6 months, the quality drastically reduces. Am not sure what it means.
Am not sure why review houses are totally impressed with this set, though the motion resolution is horrendous 300 lines(600 with tru-motion enabled).
Is OLED picture so exciting that people are just crazy about it?
The latest OLED models of LG dont receive good reviews though.

Think it is better to continue with my 50st50 for a while or go for sammy plasma. How are the 2014 models of sammy plasmas?
There is a devil inside me that wants to avenge the failure with getting ZT60..it just wants me to buy something to forget the bad experience...:ohyeah:

2014 samsung plasmas are all very basic models and samsung has not released any plasma models in 2014 as far as 5 series and 8 series are considered....still
51f5500 and 64f8500 (2013 models).....so it is better to grab 64f8500 before stocks are all sold out because samsung has also confirmed plasma exit very soon....

Dirac ,check out this link

Best picture quality TVs of 2014 - CNET

take a demo of both the tvs(lg oled and samsung 64f8500) and choose a tv which looks good to your eyes....all the best

Best NOT to make a purchase with a vengeance in mind. :)

Clouds your judgement and makes you take the wrong one.

So keep your deviltry and vengeance out of your purchase, some astute salesman can smell it.:)

Keep it cold, harsh, logical and calculated for a good purchase.

Not yet dude.
Somehow this oled madness has crept in and am scouting for 9800 which appears to be out of stock. Instead the latest 9300 is being offered that has slightly poorer ratings..

Guys..finally saw lg55ec930.
This was put by the side of a 4k telly of samsung.
blacks..very deep.
skin tones ...better than 4k tvs for the same input signal.
bright scenes....as good as 4k leds.
motion...comparable to 4k leds..little worse than them.

lg demo content...worst motion i have ever seen on any tv before..suddenly you feel if digital tv tech has moved back by 5 years atleast.
Not that bad when viewing real content.

finally did not feel the "wow"...my st50 is by far smoother though less brighter.
Also the bright telly brings a punishing effect if the source has any issues...
A lower frame rate video or a lesser resolution one will really make us feel unhappy..

LG has to reconsider its sample and hold method of motion processing. Though did not see any ghosting, the blur was disturbing..in their own demo video...
