I have been using PowerDVD for quite some time and I am even more happy with the new version. It plays ALL files without any issues. The only issue I have with PowerDVD is it's lack of capability to play HD audio. I know it is a EDID issue and I hope to take the help of OneTheRocks here and Tulli over at AVS forum.

In the mean time, I read Sam's thread with interest. In that, Sam seemed very happy with Arcsoft's Total Media Theater. So I downloaded a trial version of their 5.x version. The first movie I played has DTS HD Mstr, and I was beaming like a kid with a candy when I saw my Onkyo scream DT HD Mstr on its display. But try what I might, TMT could not bitstream Dolby TrueHD.

In the meantime, I continued to use TMT and came across a few issues.

1. In most Bly-Rays, particularly those with HD Audio, there is a clear lip-sync problem, sometimes by as much as 2 to 3 seconds. Though I tried adjusting the Onkyo AVR, the lip-sync continued.

2. When TMT plays a disc/file and sends LPCM to the receiver, if you pause or stop, the AVR roars with some noise. This only goes away when you shut down TMT.

3. If you are playing a movie with HD audio and pause the movie, when you click on the play button, there is no sound from the AVR/speaker combination. In most cases I have to restart the AVR to get the sound.

4. Let us say you are playing a movie and have to go for dinner, what I usually do is to pause, minimise the software player, put the HTPC to sleep, and shut down the AVR. In most cases I just restart the AVR and HTPC, and simply restart from the same position. When I do this with TMT, it just shows a blank screen with no controls.

I have not faced these issues with PowerDVD. If any of you have faced similar issues, I will be curious to know and try to find a solution.

Cheers

I am using TMT for different purpose & so I dont know about Bitstreaming.I use it for total decoding & get analoge 5.1 out.
Here I found that-

1.I cannot config speaker device.
ie.Unlike MPCHC/VLC,if you select sound output(say D2X),it doents remember that & if you change primary device another from D2X,it gets connected to that soundcard(say onboard).
2.New TMT downsamples HD-audio to 16bits.So I have installed TMT V2 which decodeds bitperfect & using it with MPCHC(as V2 cant run on win7)

So we have 3 choices-
1.PDVD- DD true HD discs
2.TMT - Dts-HD BDs
3.MPCHC- for both with some tricks.

I am very sure all the problems listed are more to do with the configuration. TMT to me is lot better than PDVD. The only gripe is lack of subtitle support.

I have tried every option for sound output in TMT configuration. Nothing makes any difference. Do you have any pointers to the configuration?

Have you tried PowerDVD 11? It works beautifully with none of the issues I have seen in TMT.

Regarding subtitle, I don't understand. TMT does show subtitles well as long as they are in the media.

Cheers

Need the following

OS - ?
Receiver - ?
Real time EDID (.bin file)

If receiver is an Onkyo and EDID has 6 channel LPCM in SAD (which it would mostly have) then EDID override is a must. Everything will fall in place after that.

Thanks a million. Will send all the details in a few days. I have to capture the EDID using Moninfo for both the receiver (which is an Onkyo) and the LCD. and yes, it does have a 6 channel LPCM.

Suppose a Movie file has different audio track for English, German, French etc. all are dts or dd. Now if I play such movie the German track is played, I want to select the English track, how do i select it?

When the movie is playing right click with your mouse. A menu will pop-up with an option titled 'sub-title'. This displays the available subtitles and subtitle files (languages) for the current media. Select the desired subtitle to enable it. This also has an 'Off' option that will shut down the sub title.

If nothing is being displayed in the sub title menu, there are two possibilities. One; you have set the sub-tile to 'Off' in the media's pop-up menu. Two; the media does not have any sub-title.

Thanks for the quick response, but I asked for the audio not sub-title :indifferent14:

How to save EDID
Connect your computer to AVR as follows:

Computer graphics card/Motherboard(HDMI OUT)-----HDMI----->(HDMI IN)AVR
AVR(HDMI OUT)-----HDMI----->(HDMI/DVI IN)Monitor/TV

1. Download moninfo (Monitor Asset Manager) from here http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/moninfo.exe
2. Install moninfo
3. Run moninfo. You will get a screen something like this

Make sure to select the "Real-time" EDID corresponding to your AVR on the left hand side under "Display IDs".
Like for example in the image above the Real Time EDID [Real-time 0x0011] of HP monitor is selected. Do not select "Registry-Active" or "Registry" or "Sample" or any other option.

4. Click File-->Save as.

5. Select DI binary files (*.bin). Put a file name and save it.
