Kindly refer to my earlier posting on JP Transcription Turntable. My Technician and myself were thinking of how to enhance the performance of this fantastic player. After much thought, we decided to use the help of a Stethoscope to eliminate even the least of resonance that could affect the end result. We noticed that the metal body of the TT was bolted to the wooden plinth and even though the motor was well isolated, there was some resonance to the wooden plinth which was being transmitted to the stylus through the wooden plinth. We thought of many options and came to the conclusion of isolating the wood part from the metal body and also isolating the arm from the wooden plinth. I could adjust the VTA better after increasing the height of the arm with rubber bush as you can see from the pics. The first two pics were befroe modding and the rest after the modding. After implementing the plan, I called my brother to listen. According to him. the player has become very silent and detailing has improved and the overall sound reproduction leaner and it sounds like listening to the best CD reproduction in the purest analogue form. I am yet to take it to my Listening room for audition. I will post my impression as soon as I do that. BTW, a local TV Channel has taken a documentary on my Records and Turn Table collection. I will try to get a master from them and put it on U tube as soon as it comes out. I am sure my post will some of the forum member to be tempted to get a Stethoscope! I will post pics of the TT before the modification and after the mod. Happy listening. Long live Vinyl. kuruvilajacob

I have stethoscope. I use it to test (1) motor noise and (2) to dampen the actual music transferring from platter to tt chassis. One can actually hear it. Very handy tool to have.

Waiting for the video Kuruvilajacob! What did you do to isolate the metal body from the wood? I can see it raised but cannot make out what is separating them.

Steve,
I used springs to isolate the metal part from the wood. I tried it with rubber bush first and then spring. I checked both using Stethoscope. Now i know why all the old Garrards used the springs to eliminate rumble

Right now I am sitting in my listening room with the modified JP . Though my Garrard 301s may sound bolder and with much more punch, I would say JP cannot be beaten for smooth silky sound especially while playing old crooners like Mat Monrow , Nat King Cole. It is also very impressive while playing instrumentals and the detailing is amazing. It has the advantage of high torque and advantage of belt drive which to me is unique. It would sound more like a good Linn Sondek if not better . Let me tell you it is much more impressive than before the modification with respect to detailing and smoothness. I don't regret the efforts taken. I want to thank all those who have encouraged me to try out different things on TT differently from normal practices. BTW, I am right now listening to Don williams and let me tell you, it sounds so smooth when compared to any of my other players and that is the bottom line.

You are on TV Sir !!!!. Congratulations, that goes to show your dedication towards your hobby. You really are passionate about TTs and Vinyl.

Best wishes Sir.

A neatly cut circular sponge pushed in to springs (little bigger than ID of the spring but shorter in length) will further dampen/isolate it.

+1 some old Pioneer and JVC tables used to have this arrangement.
