There are far more options and DSP settings available for jriver. I mostly use its DLNA capability and android remote by jriver.

Downloaded the trial and played with it the past few days. It offers resampliing above 192,000 Hz but that setting does not work on my system. Otherwise I can get the same 192,000 Hz at 24-bit on Foobar with the Sox resampler.

I don't even want to enter into the merits/benefits/placebo effects of upsampling/resampling.

Other DSP FX are also comparable to Foobar and MediaMonkey... sorry no offense to you but I don't see or hear anything worth the $44.98.

Amarra I've heard and it definitely offers an improvement. I've also heard the Spatial Computer and that's in a different league.

Seems the good folks at J River are only ripping off customers with the promise of better sound and what's worse its not even a lifetime license with lifetime upgrades. From what I read one has to purchase a new license for each new version or upgrade from the previous purchase.

I'd recommend people staying with Foobar which does it better and for free!

I messed around with JRiver for a quite a bit too. I gave it 5 days of listening and then switched back to Foobar to compare. No difference to my ears. Also, I prefer the way I've set up the Foobar interface, to the feature bloat of JRiver. And, you can't beat 'free'.

Any pointers on settings?

I find no improvement over Foobar.

Sir,
I am not computer savvy & my understanding is limited.
All said, what I find to work best with J River is :-
Output @ 25m/s & Wasapi Event Style.
These you will find in Options / Tools.
Do try & let me know what you think of it.
Also set playback from RAM if possible.

All the Best !

Regards,

I have tried to add a screen shot from my machine - if that helps.

Lots of my 'audiophile' friends prefer J Play - I did not like it.

Thank you sir.

Settings already enabled = WASAPI - Event Style @ 10 ms/s.
Playback files from memory also previously enabled.

I am not contesting playback from J River is not good. It is good. But same output and settings also possible from Foobar so its not worth to pay $44.98 for version 18 and then again pay upgrade fees for each subsequent version.

I have tried JPlay and did not like it myself.

I did like Amarra but I'm not a Mac enthusiast.

Sir,

10 m/s

Brilliant;

I cannot manage more than 25 - how do you do it ??

I have no idea sir (please stop calling me sir). It just shows up for me in Output Mode Settings.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on Intel i7-2600K with 16 GB RAM.

JRiver Media Center version is 17.0.182.

No treatment of any kind... just an Asus Xonar STX Soundcard with digital out to M1 DAC.
