Laptops from the US - Need help

I am advising my Bro in Law on choices of laptop to be bought from the US and used in India. His budget is in the 400-450 USD range. I am keeping it as 400 USD for any other accessory or upgrade he may need later.

I thought newegg.com should be a good place to check (let me know if there are better sites).

Primary Usage - Browsing, watching movies.

Two of them I liked were (Both at $399). Please advise between the two and better choices too.

Beg pardon..but for just Internet browsing and Movies, a tablet would work fine. In fact...in a few ways better than a laptop...I hope you have considered a few options in tablets as well.

Agreed, tried convincing him. But there are practical problems with a tab.

For example, its hard to download movies through tablet or play a dvd or even the small screen of the tabs.
