I'm a noob who has been lurking and picking up valuable knowledge from all of you. I've been trying to put together a nice system on the cheap and am almost home.
1) picked up a Yamaha A-S500 receiver for $140.
2) after doing my research here, paired them with B&W CM5's + B&W AS610 subwoofer for $450. One of the tweeter domes are bent but I learned this isn't a big deal and easily fixable/replaceable. Sound fine either way. Was a little nervous but seems like an excellent deal on the speakers from what I can tell.
3) Turntable? This one scares me a little. I don't really want to buy new if I can help it. And I don't want the TT to be the weak link in the chain. So my question is -- What $ range should I be looking at for the best overall value? And any other basic advice on either what to look for, or what to avoid on the second-hand market.
I'm buying vinyl left and right and can't wait to complete the set and enjoy.
