Friends,
How is LG tv's after sales service. I meant to say does LG honour the AMC in case of any tv failure during the AMC period, because in case of sony and samsung, after 1 year of purchase owner has to bear the total cost of repair even if extended warranty is taken. Does lg also behave in the similiar manner like sony and samsung if AMC is taken or is it different. Becuase i am looking to buy an led/lcd tv.

????????? Then what is meant by warranty ?

I didn't mean to offend anyone. I meant to say during extended warranty period they let down cutomers, by asking customers to bear the cost of repair(not during warranty period).

In 2001, I had purchased an LG 29" CRT TV for 48k. The TV's EHT went kaput 5 years later. LG service told me that my TV was one of the first 29 incher and was a CKD kit from Korea and assembled in India. The components were not available locally. They said that they cannot repair it and did not promise anything.

So, I went to my local repair shop. He had the TV for nearly 8 months or so. He could get someone to import the EHT from Singapore. Meanwhile, I had purchased a Sony 29". Finally, I sold off the LG TV in 2010. But I was sad to let it go because it's PQ was better than the Sony 29". I sold it off only because in case something went bad again, it would be another problem for repair. I got 6K for it.

This has been my only experience with LG. Most of my CGs are made by Samsung.

Bought a 24 inch led PC monitor from LG, went kaput in the 2nd year.To my surprise I found that PC monitors have a 3 year warranty. The led panel was promptly replaced by lg and it is working as good as new.

We own an LG 21" CTV for around 11 years. Only last month it was repaired for shades [due to magnetic interference] on the panel. Service was done very quickly and costed on 250/- bucks including service charges.

The TV still has very good PQ and awesome clarity. :)

I have a very neutral perspective on after sales. If you get the right technician, it's a breeze but nothing short of harassment otherwise. My mate (rich brat!) who has a 46" Series 7 LED TV (ES7500R i think..) and an LG LW6500 3D TV says he gets excellent after sales service even during the extended warranty period for both the units. Make of it what you will but service experience is a subjective matter.

Well, Any CRT(specially India made) will be easier and cheaper to repair and any experienced local TV repair guy can restore it. I am using LG 29" since 2002 and only repair cost once till date was 650/- due to power supply failure.

Technician assured that as long as the parts or substitutes are available, it can get repaired cheaply unless big issue (P-Tube, M-Board). Surprisingly Indian components according to him are way better and reliable than imported ones.

Unfortunately, same is not the case with new flat panels where repair cost can make you cry.

I completely agree. When a person invests a huge money in buying a flat panel TV, his/her expectation is that the product should last long (at least 7 to 10 years) to recover the investment. I am not sure if others agree to this point, but I personally expect to have my TV working for 10 years if I invest say INR 1 Lakhs. I am more concerned about reliability first and the PQ next rather than having more costly features. I am still not having confidence of buying a flat screen only for this reason. I think I need to accept the reality that companies are focussing more on the features rather than on the quality/reliability. People say that the technology gets outdated in a couple of years and so why one has to have the product for so long. Still I am unable to accept that answer because as long as the product serves the purpose for me, I will continue to use it. It is like I buy a car and want to use for 10 years straight even if there are new ultra modern cars coming around - where my purpose to drive safely, economically and maintenance free are met.
