HI,

I am looking to get a 5.1 channel system for my computer.Budget is max 20K.

This will be connected to the sound card of my computer ( Creative SB now and Asus DX very soon).

Usage is more of music than movies. Let me tell you I am happy with 5.1 channel. I find it more pleasant than 2 channel.

Two options I thought are Z 5500 and Philips 3571 (Quoted 15.25K, one piece left apart from display piece).

I am a bass head.. need deep bass. I have my DIY 10inch JBL sub, I should connect it with the 5.1 system.

please suggest me the best among the above two.

Trust me, 5.1 can never be pleasant than a 2 channel. What config you heard that made you conclude this?

If you are more into music, I would suggest a good 2 channel setup that would compliment your xonar card

I GOT z-5500 and they are good.. however not a tight bass..... bus still good.. if music is the purpose rather than watchin movies in 5.1.. get an amp with sub out and 2 speakers to get music and add u diy jbl sub to that...

I heard the 2.1 channel Creative inspire and other systems ( sub 2K). My HTIB is far better to my ears.

Believe me, A 2.1 or 5.1 system will not do justice to your music. You will be missing something in your music for sure. Best way would be to go for is an Integrated amp + bookshelf speakers combo. Check out the forum threads for different eligible combos for different budgets.

Thats exactly the problem. Creatives are not stereo speakers. Before you plunge your money, i suggest you audition a proper 2.0 system i,e stereo setup at a audio equipment dealer near your place.

For 20k you get some good speaker and a tripath amp. Trust me, bliss is guaranteed and you will never see a 5.1 again.

My wife before marriage was a hard core 5.1 fan. Will listen to music only in 5.1, now after hearing my stereo setup, never even touches 5.1, infact, she now-a-days listens to my tapes than CDs :)

Dont rush, take your time and spend wisely my friend. No one can explain the difference, you need to hear to believe.

Not to hijack the thread but madbullram what is your take on a 2.1 speaker system like Razer Mako( approx 18k) or Creative Gigaworks T3(aprox 15k). I have also taken an audition of wharfedale diamond 9.1 and 9.2 with a Norge amp, even tho it sounded very clear and musical i still wasn't happy with the bass( may be needs some tweaking). Also can u tell us if the wharfs + norge amp will sound as good for genres like hip hop, house and popular bollywood??

Also if a person is mainly listening to music from the laptop( with a soundcard) as source, and mp3 formats, then which set up is better suited?

If the choice is in between 2(Title) then philips can be good. This 3571has both digital in(coax & opt).
Xonar digital out is very clean & with my onkyo ,music sounds pleasent(not as good as stereo amp).I use DDlive too & 2 ch converted to 5.1 also sounds good with SW in action.

what ever may be the source, always a dedicated two channel set up is the winner. listen to believe.

But what about different genres of music like Hip-Hop, and House and trance and soft rock. And also this stereo set up is for entry-level speaker and not Higher end equipment??

I have taken the Philips 3571 model today . Cost 15.25K with free HDMI cable included in package.

The set is doing good. I am not much satisfied on bass front. I have a home made DIY sub (JBL 10 inch driver). Its impedance is 4 ohm. Philips sub impedance is 3 ohm. I am tweaked the sub connector so that I can connect both my sub woofers at a time.
Does this result in any issue to the system?

Or can some one tell me where can I get the pins that comes with 3571 for speakers, so that I can connect my DIY sub alone with that pin.
