Hi all, I've got a pair of Jamo floorstanding C809 and was thinking of driving it with Marantz PM6004 for a start.

My concern is will PM6004's output rating of 45Watts (8 ohm)/60 Watts (4 ohm) be enough to drive the c809 or will the speaker be wanting of a much more power?

looking forward for your experienced comments guys and gals...

thanks heaps in advance!

Grossly under-powered. You need to be looking at something that delivers 200w continuous, 300w on avg and 400 recommended. They sound good but sacrificed sensitivity to do so.

Nice speaker!!!

Marantz PM6004 would be underpowered.

I would recommend that you check out Emotiva XPA series (lots of power with the best bang for buck).

Also, Yamaha A-S1000/A-S2000 (have heard with C607).

McIntosh (though I've not heard it with Jamo).

Specs of C809 ( Jamo : C 800 : C809 ):

Tripod Mount 3-way bassreflex
Max. Load Weight (lbs) 33.6 / 74.1
Frequency Response 30 - 24,000
Power (W, long/short term) 200 / 400
Impedance 6
Sensitivity (dB, 2.8V/1m) 89
Tweeter (mm/in) 25 / 1 DTT
Overall Dimensions 1187 x 276 x 428 / 46.7 x 10.9 x 16.9
Product dimensions (mm/in, HxWxD) 1157 x 252 x 428 / 45.6 x 9.9 x 16.9
UNIT_MEAS_WOOF_MAG1 180 / 7
Woofer (mm/in) 2 x 180 / 7
Product Finish Black ash or dark apple

Is 89 db (at 2.83v, 1m) for a 6 ohm speaker low?

Spec sheets give an idea of hardware but real world usage is often different. Take for example the impedance which is 6ohms, can easily drop under 3.

The c807 and c809 in real life, will not sound their best unless paired with a high wattage, high current amplifier. Suppose if you paired it to a 200watt @ 4ohms amplifier which is 150 at 6ohms and 100 at 8 ohms, if one maxes out the volume, (class ab/b/w solid state amplifiers sound their best when they're not pushed to their maximum due to high distortion at max volume) and one puts a speaker that's 200/400w at full volume, not only will the sound be harsh and bright, but the owner also risks damaging the speakers from distortion.

thanks guys, that definitely gave me much much more to think about...

so that means the Marantz PM7004 (70watts @ 8ohms/100watts @ 4ohms) that the store was using to power their Jamo C809 demo is very much underpowered still.

Hi there corElement, thanks for your input... I have an impression that you very well are a HI-FI person, that is you have a very wide understanding in HIFI-Audio...hope you won't mind my asking: Specifically What or which amplifier would you choose to power a Jamo C809 and why?

thanks heaps in advance again.

Emotiva XPA 1 or vincent SP331MK grade amplifiers. Naim high wattage amps as well.

If these are beyond your budget you're between a rock and a hard place. The 8004 might be sufficient to play the c809's it would be like putting a luxury sedan engine onto a monster truck :S It'll drive the monster truck on the road and turn left right but wont be sending the monster truck flying across the field like they should (I know, weird comparison right?)

yeah sounds weird comparison... but true the speaker seems a big truck (often underestimated though) thus need a big and loaded engine to fully power it up and bring out the best from it. thanx again.

Yes, this speaker wants to drive atleast 150 watts per channel@8 ohms, you'll get 200 watts @6 ohms continuous power

definitely needs a NAD 375BEE or 372BEE

marantz would be underpowered

reminds me of the gusty Sonus Faber Extremas .. need 300 watts RMS to make 'em sing & worthwhile their high price

Hey fellas,
I drive my C809 using Vincent SP 331, and they sound great, especially for Indian music. They have great warmth and decent imaging.
I was actually thinking of upgrading to the next level.... any ideas are welcome.

once i drove my jamo c407 with yamaha pre-power combo and the results are good.
you may think prepower option also

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
