Hello,

I've been lurking for a long time but for the first time I have a question to make that I can't find an answer for around here.

I have a Marantz SR5005 and I never used the surround speakers before, I tried to used them during the weekend and there was no output through the SURROUND outputs on the back. I tried with audyssey and all the other speakers made a sound when the on screen help told me it was "hissing" and I thought it could be because of a configuration problem. I reset the unit and tried again, no luck. I think I might have a problem with the unit but only for those two outputs because everything else is working fine. I followed all the manual instructions and still no luck.

Does anybody had a problem like this one before?

Thanks,
Juan

Welcome to HFV,it may be wrong or loose connection.Check wires too if in good condition. Also you have configured AVR as 7.1.

I own a Yamaha - but I guess the same applies to Marantz.

If Power Amp assign is set to 5.1 then Surround Back Left and Right will not get any signal ( Only the Surround L&R will be active). Check if you have connected the rear speakers to Suuround Back ( These should be used only in a 7.1 configuration)

thanks for info. I tried to use Avatar as the Input for the audio but no matter what I can't have any output from the surround speaker. I can get to work the speaker height L & R but not the surround ones . When I run the tone test (that hissing noise on eachs speaker as you list thru the list of all speakers) I hear a relay activating when I select the Surround spekars. Not sure why the amp is doing that but no matter the combination I try that output (regular surround) is not emiting any sound at all. Very, very, very frustrating

maybe u need to change the surround mode? from stereo to multi channel? sometimes the easiest solution is often the solution. i have the same amp. its the only thing i can think of i am doing wrong. lol
what input are u using? try setting the surround mode to multi channel stereo. u will know if its working fine

Thanks for the help. Ok, if you have the same amp. Then I'm pretty sure I'm not doing something wrong. I tested all surround modes (stereo, multi ch., pl II, dts cinema, etc) none of them is making the surrond spekaers do nothing. I wonder if there is a very specific resistance for those speaker, I have two POlK monitor 50 connected there.

Is there an option in speaker setup something like "Surround (L/R)" which has the options like [ ] use [ ] none? Can you run Audyssey and see if it reports any errors?

Nope, nothing like that and when I run audyssey it doesn't generate any output for the surround speakers (only all other works as expected).

Thanks

Tired of testing and testing and getting no results at all I took the amp to be serviced and see what Marantz says about it. I'll have the diagnostic in a couple of weeks.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
