I recently got a marantz player fully functional with cartridge . but one problem was the tonearm would not play till the end. the tonearm would start to skip or play on the same groove at the end.how to rectify this defect? my model is Marantz 221 DD .Should this be given to a professional or can i do it myself? if so how? this player i bought from a recording studio along with records.
Regards
Srinivas

vmscbe1974,
check for usual suspects...
- Is tracking force too low or high ?
- Is turntable level ?
- Does tonearm move freely by hand ?
regards

There should be an adjustment screw for Auto start/return near back side of tonearm. You may need to remove small rubber cap to adjust that.See pic for reference :

Dear Mr.Hiten

the tonearm moves freely. tracking force i have not checked , but feel i have balanced the tone arm and it floats correctly.have fixed a the AT90 cartridge. The level is flat but i will recheck once again.
Thanks
Srinivas

Dear MR. Sachu

Thanks for the great picture. I will try as per the picture diagram. I also have another query the tonearm does not land softly on to the record. Is any dampening mechanism to be checked and how? could you please help?
Regards
Srinivas.

It dampening fluid(Silicon)may have dried up.You need to get the Silicon liquid filled(I could not find it in India). It will require some skills. It is available here Silicone Damping Fluid For Tonearm Cueing Mechanisms, Damping Troughs and Monopivots but liquid is not allowed for International shipping.

Go through the threads on audiokarma to find the right
viscosity for the silicone damping fluid for your turntable.
500k wt seems typical. ebay sellers ship worldwide, or if you
have someone coming from the US, it is easily available in
Radio Control hobby stores (Kyosho or other brand)

You will need just a few cc of the oil, so if you are getting a 40cc
container, you may be able to share it to save costs :)

srinivas,
Is your turntable fully automatic ? If it is, I would suggest to first repair the cueing problem.
