Hi, I need a mic for recording directly into PC via Soundforge. Actually i want to record voice for a documentary. After much research I have come to conclusion and want to buy zoom h1 handy recorder. Have contacted bajaao.com but they said it it will take 15days to ship me the product. As i am in a bit hurry, i want to buy something that make my things done for now and later i will buy the zoom h1.

As the recording needs to be clear enough, is there any headset with mic or MIC only that can fulfill my need. budget 3k. Docu. will be burned to DVD so no broadcast quality required.

Have you considered a cell phone?

Don't laugh, for recording voice only, a cell phone (a decent one such as high end Nokia, Samsung) are more than enough. So long as you keep them close to mouth they will just work. Just position them well (not too close, not too distant).

For recording voice only, this method will give you as good result as any mic in the 1000-2000 rs range wherever you put that money.

Any microphone with noise cancellation will work fine. I use such headsets for work (client calls, dictations, etc.). The best will be Andrea (not available locally) but you can also get excellent results with a Sennheiser available locally in Reliance Digital.

Ensure it lists noise cancelling microphone and not headphone... that will give voice clarity without disturbance of background/ambient noise.

PS - Mobile phones too are good. I use my iPhone and iPod Touch for dictations on the go.

i tried the mobile, but as i dont have highend phone, the voice doesnt come out nice. it felt more compressed type.

should i ask Sennheiser mic or headphone ? or it is headphone with mic? how much it may cost?

I use it for training Videos, meetings and other hobby works.

a bit better than PC related mic recording.
but will have the sync the video properly.

yes, but the model I use seems to have gone to archives I guess, ICD-UX200F.
do check other options avlb at filpkart, including mics - different price range and per your comfort.

I've used one of these Sony stereo mics for years. I used it a lot with mini-disc portable, and also direct with the PC. The quality is pretty good.

It is a consumer device, and mates with "plug-in-power" sockets, the ones that are usually colour-coded red on cameras, recorders, pc etc, I've used it on laptop and desktop machines, but it is no good at all for pro soundcards or mixers, as they do not supply the right voltage for it. And no, "phantom power" won't do: it is something else entirely.

I don't think noise cancelling should be a requirement. The theory of noise-cancelling, as per use on flights, etc, is that it is good at cancelling out a consistent noise such as aircraft engines. It might be good, also, with the sounds of a fan or an AC machine, but those noises are easy to cancel: switch the machine off! Noise cancelling is not good with intermittent background noise such as that created by family or neighbours. This sort of noise has to managed, not cancelled.

Just as I can't plug my Sony stereo mic into a pro soundcard or mixer, nor can I plug my Shure SM57 into a PC. That requires a mic pre-amp, such as might be built in to a mixer or to a pro or home-studio soundcard.

3.5k ok....but have u made recording with it?

I have made a recording to test it and its great. Picks up very little ambient noise like surrounding atmosphere, fan, etc. Will only pick your vocals and works very great.

PS - My work is not recording but I use it mainly with Dragon NaturallySpeaking, which is demanding s/w and it works great with it.

Wanted a recorder for music classes which requires recording at close proximity. Ordered Tascam DR05 from amazon which ships the item to india(amazon global). Cost me 106 usd all inclusive. (costs around 12k here) Hope i dont get charged anything extra locally.
