Hi all
Please bear with me for asking a possibly very noob question.:p But as the title implies, I would like to know if a mini hifi (specifically the Sony MHC-AV55) or a DVD player (Pioneer DV-220KV-K) can be used to drive a pair of passive floorstanding speakers like the Boston Acoustics CS 260 II or Yamaha Ns-8390. Please let me know if this is theoretically possible and if it is practicable.

Thanks in advance.

Could you post the specs of your Sony? Pioneer is just a player I suppose, with no amp in it. So speakers cannot be connected to the Pioneer. Usually Sony amps are 6Ohm impedance. So check the specs of the speakers and take a call. Speakers over 6ohm should be Okay. However, at the same time you should keep in mind that mini hifi systems are speced to the speakers they are bundled with and not very tolerant. Efficient bookshelves, I would not worry, non efficient towers I would tread carefully.
