Hi,

How would I be able to play DTS Matroska video file (Movie:The Bourne Supremacy) which is a 2 GB file. I have the file on my drive. It's a mkv file. My DVD player Pioneer DV 220 doesn't read this file. I had copied the file on a DVD disc but the player is not recognizing it, I also tried via the USB port, still the same.

Is there any other way out to make it play in my Pioneer DV 220. One of my pals advised me to convert the mkv file to avi, and try. Should I give it a try. But it that case I have a feeling that I would lose the dts audio signals in the avi format.

Has anybody come across this issue. Plz respond.

Warm regards

Like crt tv's don't have hdmi port, optical out ... present in lcd tv, developers are not willing to provide mkv playback in DVD player even most of the bluray players don't have mkv playback.Like the previous answer you can retain dts (maximum 1536 kbps) and video upto 720*576 maximum if properly encoded.

Hi,
You can try this software ConvertXtoDVD. It supports mkv and DTS formats. This is one of the best software which converts HD mkv files to DVD maintaining excellent quality in DVD format and retaining the DTS or that can also be converted to AC3 for space saving issues.

Hope this helps...

Just a FYI.. Sony BDP S370 for INR 9400-9700 retailing in India can play most HD format files (1080/24p or 720p with 5.1 DTS or DD encoded Audio)... so it can play mkv, m2ts, ts mp4, avcdh etc.
you can play these files from a USB HDD or a USB pendrive connected to the USB port on front side of the player (or the rear side)....

dts will be limited to 400-500kbps if i remember correctly..thats the max limit for dvd format...

you cannot maintain the quality of a 2gb mkv file, period. Most 480p mkv files which are about 1gb in size too are abt 820x*** resolution. by muxing, one can maintain the quality, but then the resolution too remains the same. ur 2gb file min resolution will be 1024 and no dvd player plays more than 720..

Hence mate, the simple ans is no, it cant be done without loss of quality in video. DTS to ac3 aint bad @ ac3 5.1 at 448kbps.

If you want to write DVD and watch it.. try software 'DVD Flick'.. It should convert and write MKV files also as DVD format
You won't need to convert and write separately.. this should do both together..

Get. dedicated media player if you want to watch HS media. If you want to play on that dvd player only, you will have to convert to a lower resolution.
