Looking for suggestions on mobile which should be pretty good for Audio listening mostly while travelling.

Vivo leads the world in audiophiles phones.

1. "In the best of Vivo's traditions, the world's thinnest, 4.75mm phone, is also equipped with the company's usual high quality audio experience, Hi-fi 2.0, ensured this time by a Yamaha YSS-205X chip for the karaoke mode, SABRE ES9601 DAC and TIs OPA1612 amplifier kit. As Vivo itself puts it, the phone "measures 120dB SNR, 118dB dynamic range, and distortion of less than -100dB"."

"2. Galaxy S5 Octa version has been granted a Wolfson Microelectronics WM5110E Audio Hub CODEC with a Voice Processor DSP.:"

"3. The Pro version of Meizu's flagship MX4 provides a Hi-fi experience with an OPA1612 Super-high Resolution Amplifier, an advanced ES9018K2M DAC, and passive filtering."

"4. HTC One (M8) has also been built with audiophiles in mind, featuring dedicated sound processing and headphone amplifier units, producing one of the strongest output powers."

Cheers

Of all the mobiles I have owned (all flagships). HTC One M8 has been THE best as far as audio goes. Not even my current marathon Nexus 6p comes close in terms of producing Audio when compared to HTC M8.

If you already have a phone, add an USB DAC to improve the listening...

hifime DIY, Dragon fly, Cambridge Audio XS are some portable DAC and many more aval.. Shortlist based on your budget...

The Vivo may just about beat it!!

I stream music regularly from my mobile through Bluetooth when I am driving. I am not able to make out any difference between the wave files played by my car system and the FLAC files streamed from the mobile. But then, neither my mobile nor my car system are anything worth writing home about.

Venkat from the spec's this looks the best and I will try for some auditioning but couple of stuffs running on my MIND with it

Had a very bad experience with another Chinese mobile vendor (Redmi Note), brought couple of pieces but non lasted more than 6 months and the customer care was very pathetic. asked money as same as the cost of mobile for repairing it in warranty.

The samsung/HTC seems of late 2014 make, any new version of them with same audio hardware's?

Where do one rate Iphone's?

Current one is almost dead somehow managing to use daily. also carrying the DAC etc may cause any security issues at office as they think its a Pen Drive etc

The average life of a phone is less than 2 years. Manufacturers will vie with each other to ensure you dont use a phone for more than 2 years. Does not matter what brand you buy. Today, it is cheaper to buy a new phone that trying to repair an old phone.

In my mind, a phone is not a solution for listening to music. There is no sense in trying to push so much of electronics and into something like a phone. If you want to listen to music in all it's purity, something like FiiO is the best option.

For an average manufacturer, the price of a phone is so competitive that it does not make too much sense to set up an elaborate support system. They don't want you to repair or use a phone for a long time. So I don't expect anyone to behave in any other way. Apple tells it's people not to repair any phones. If it is within the warranty, just replace the unit. Outside warranty, make the repair charges so ridiculous, that it makes sense to buy a new one. That is what i heard from Reliance a number of time I took my wife's iPhone 5 to them. Finally just threw it away and bought an LG for her. I gave Micromax for repair, and they are yet repairing it after six months.

My plan is to never spend more than 5-7.5K on any phone. Irrespective of what features are advertised. For me the phone has a simple job. To make and receive calls. For even whatsapp, I use my laptop. I don't use the phone for anything else. There are no applications or anything else installed. What messages I get, I read them and delete them. I maintain a secondary backup of all my contacts and images, as I expect to either lose the phone anyday or for it to crash one day.

But then those are my personal preferences. Even if I feel like it, I cannot say people who make their phones their lifeline are not very smart, can I?

Thanks Venkat for very detailed feedback on my comment. I just have one think to say as you said the average life of mobile is two year, but the redmi's didnt last 6 months.. never mind... taking this ahead If i go with different devices for each purposes which one should I pick from fiio?

The Lenovo Vibe X3 they say has 'audiophile' sound. The specs certainly stand the part, do not know how it sounds.

I am using HTC One M8 currently and can say that HTCs do sound great. Of all the phones I have used over the years HTCs outperformed the rest, can not tell you how nice and clean my old HTC Desire V sounded.
HTC does take pride in its audio capabilities. The M9+, successor to M8 is said to have the same pedigree for audio and people do love it. It does not come cheap though.

Samsung flagships say they have Wolfson DACs and do sound nice. S6 will do the job nicely but again these are not cheap.

FiiO has a distributor in Mumbai. The best would be to go to him and audition the models. There is a large price variation between the models. But every model is supposed to be very good. There are also some minor variations in terms of UI and size of SC card. Look at the specs and decide.

If you want to experiment, maybe start with the least expensive one - their X3 second generation. Comes for about 15K.

I am using Sony Xperia Z3 Compact. Music sounds good, especially with a Sony noise cancelling ear-phone (around Rs. 1000) which works only with certain Sony models. Also the phone can play High Res audio files like DSD, etc. natively. I am using Onkyo HF Player though and not the built-in Sony music player.

On your current phone try Jetaudio Basic. Tune the sound to suit your taste using the 10 band graphic equalizer. It is one of the few players that comes with 10 band EQ and it possible to get a very good sound with some experimentation of EQ settings. I used it on a Samsung Note II and it handily beats my iPod. Now using on a One Plus Two.
