Depends...
I thought I will start a new thread to discover and share movies that are with great Sound FX. Not necessarily a great movie, but with Sound FX that will blow you away and give a thorough workout to your HT System. Again anything goes - HD Audio, DTS, Dolby Digital, and probably a lot more that I am not aware of. This idea popped into my head when watching Serenity, the PQ is not that great due to its limited budget, but the SFX surely rock. Here is a listing of the movies with great SFX that come to mind right now in no particular order. I will add more as they come to remembrance. Please add your lists...

Serenity
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Transformers
Star Wars Episodes I - III
The Incredibles
King Kong (Peter Jackson's)
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
Heat
U-571
Master and Commander
Saving Private Ryan
Matrix I - III
Lord Of The Rings I - III
300
Fifth Element
X-Men I - III
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines
Batman Begins
The Dark Knight
The Rock
Deep Blue Sea
Hero (Jet Li's)
House Of Flying Daggers

Add Blackhawk down (LFE), Cars (Surround effects), Monsters Inc (LFE), Fast & Furious (surround), 300 (audio), Monsoon Wedding (songs L/R), Pirates of the Caribbean (surround effects), Apocalypto (surround effects ) and lots more

Again in no particular order.

Gladiator
True Lies
Casino Royale
Air Force One
The Hunt for Red October
Behind Enemy Lines
Kill Bill 1-3?
Star Wars
Alien
2001 - A Space Odyssey
Back To The Future
Die Hard series, particularly Die Hard 1, and Die Hard 4
Platoon
The Longest Day
Battle of The Bulge
Bridges At Tokori

Cheers

One more I would add...

The Ghost and the Darkness.

Movie is also excellent BTW. Val Kilmer was a favorite in this and The Saint (another great movie).

Animation movies are technically very well made. I love Happy feet for the violins. There is a particular scene where they show sun rise over the antarctic which has a hum to complement it. Mind blowing. I have also liked Diehard series and airforce 1, U571 especially the underwater bombing sequences .

Yeah the underwater charges sequences in U571 are a personal favorite of mine too. Really give the sub a workout.

Master and Commander is my favorite demo material. In the first battle scene, one can feel the sound of people running in the upper deck as a crew in the ship

LOTR I - Fellowship of ring - Balin's Tomb shows Peter Jackson's attention to details. the surround effects of the skull bouncing in the well and the chain swinging by the cave troll....wow!

War of Worlds is another great work out for a HT set-up.

Wall-E....while all Disney /Pixar movies are a treat to both eyes and ears, Wall-E, with very limited dialogues, is where the sound recording really stands out. the most amazin thing abt wall-E is how the different sounds we hear in the movie is created. Ben Burtt....what would we do without people like you.

I was going to add Wall E, but see that someones mentioned it already. Great audio. My other personal favorites are House of Flying Dagger's (I am going to buy BluRay of this movie), 28 weeks later, Hills have Eyes 1 (DTS soundtrack will blow ur socks off)

Hell Boy 2(Golden Army)
X MAN-3 The Last stand
Kung Fu hustle
(amazing sound effects in fight scenes)
forbidden kingdom(jacky chan & jet lee)
lord of the rings-triology
spiderman-3
pirates of the Caribbean-at worlds end.

I want to add Pearl Harbor in the list, excellent DTS Dolby Digital surround sound with great aspect ratio of 2.35:1.

Add these movies for the best work out for your home theatre.

1) Swordfish
2) Final Destination-2
3) 2 Fast 2 Furious
4) Torque
5) King Kong-2006
6) Predator

Matrix reloaded -- Crap movie but the freeway chase is amazing.

Music wise I think Requiem for a Dream is one th best. Also, it is a great movie.
