Much cheaper LED TVs in Gaffar :-)

Hi All,

On my visit to Gaffar yesterday I was quoted Rs. 55,000 for the Sony 46 inch EX 520 and Rs. 58,000 for the Samsung 46 inch model (Series 5).

The price for both these LEDs is about Rs. 30,000 cheaper than the showroom price.

What I wanted to check if someone has any experience on buying LEDs from Gaffar, New delhi. Also, how come there is this huge a cost difference (hope these are not used LED TVs?

Can someone please suggest.

I plan to buy a 46 inch LED TV from New Delhi and some inputs will be very helpful.

My suggestion would be that do not get hyped about it and think carefully before buying from Gaffar. All these products are imported from thailand and middle east, so no warranty in India and also since they are not brought in through official channels, you do not know how well the product was handled.

You need to judge your risk taking capability. Yes its 30k less from showroom price, but it still costs 55k bucks...i.e. you still are paying 70% of the price! These sets can go either way (as is the case with any electronic item). Some people have bought from Gaffar and are still using the tv flawlessly, yet there are many who have bought it and have had to bear the brunt of the set failing within a very short period of time.

All depends on your risk taking position!

I have never been to gaffar market but its the famous grey market,where you get most electronics at great prices, without the warranty! I guess these people import the tvs from Thailand illegally and sell it here in India,with a good profit.Btw these tvs are not that cheap if you compare the prices in Dubai or Thailand! one can get the Samsung 46D6400 for 53k and sony 46NX720 for about 58K in dubai,but getting the Tv to India is another story!

If you feel getting these tvs for the quoted price is worth it then go for it! Only thing is that you wont get any warranty so hope for the best!:lol:

If you feel it is fair that these guys get the money instead of the govt, by all means go ahead.

I have heard that japanese products are cheaper in singapore than in japan!! Still the japanese tourists never buy a japanese thing when they on tour to singapore. It is not about saving some bucks. Its about getting the homeland more economically stable. Helps in long run.

Dear Blasto, it is better to give money to the goons, dacoits and rogues in these markets and getting something atleast rather than giving it to the goons, dacoits and rogues in the government where you get nothing and your money is stashed in some Swiss bank....

Coming back to the thread, It is a gamble to buy electronics from gaffar market or for that matter any other grey market...if the difference is Rs. 30,000 then it might be worth taking the risk provided you check the TV thoroughly before buying and also finding out the cost of repairing it would be cheaper than the difference.... if your gamble pays off it would be a very good decision but if not then ...............

Just checking whats the margin these traders keep. If its huge its better to visit thailand and pick personally

The price of the 46NX720 and 46EX720 is around 58k and 52k respectively in Dubai,these prices are a month old!! They may come down due to the arrival of newer models! I guess it should be a little cheaper in Thailand, but hurry fast coz the old models may get over.:lol:

But how are you gonna fool customs?? now u can get a 40inch tv without duty bcoz the Government has raised the limit to 35k from 25, but a 46inch may not be easy to fool!

True but then the duty will be paid on difference amoun, which shud now be 23 k instead of 33k as per new limit. Anyways one of my known one paid 7k as bribe for 46 inch led at airport dat he got frm thailand.

You will surely get this same tv cheaper in dubai as compared to gaffar market! Only thing to watch out for is the customs officers! A 46inch tv wont escape a nice duty fine!!

Off topic:
What is the baggage allowance for flights coming from Dubai?? I guess its only 23kg(single piece!) i guess a 46incher will just fit.though your frind will have to travel very light!:lol::lol:

Simply buy a Samsung 51D550 3D plasma available for around 66k with 2 glasses. It is best value for money and also with warranty. Why pay so much and go for LED and that too no warranty and no 3D.

Hi Sony's EX520 LED is for 57k (46inch). If you want to buy from ghaffar let me know because i buy my tvs from there and i know the guy very well. I am also a fan of Sony tvs but Samsung & LG design is more striking and bold. Tc.
