Music/Movies to audition?

Hello

I'm the process of selecting a 7.1 for my HT and needed suggestions on specific and movies to audition to differentiate between speaker-AVR combo from the other. Also, wanted to check whether it is better to audition CDs or mp3s are fine. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure if you will be able to pick up the specific movie suggestions

But here goes a quick list which should help you with Movies

Kung Fu Panda- One of the best sound mixes in movies!
King Kong- Many scenes including the Kong vs Trex!
Matrix 1- The chopper with the mini gun scene!
Avatar- The jungle chase and the climax !
Dark Knight- underground chase !

When it comes to music, CD is what is recommended!

also the world is not enough starting 15 mint..the boat chase...ginfire,dialouges all......
yes original cds only are for music..

Try to pick some Action movies mostly Gun fight,chasing in Air,Land ,Horse raiding etc. G.I Joe is mixed with lot of Gun fight and chasing(air and road),Van Helsing film scene when the Monster is taken in chariot which is chased by Dracula,Final Destination 2 accident scene, Transformers Fight sequence ,Batman Dark Night etc

Most of the AV rooms will have movie clips that show you all the gimmicks you are expecting.

Coming to the music. You should carry the kind of format that you store and listen to. No point in borrowing CD's and auditioning when you are actually listening to mp3 or flac from a PC.

Carry your own source of music you like to listen to and ask them to play.

If you want to see bass excursion from drivers , try Dubstep etc.,

For music, carry a disc you listen to day in and day out. This should help to judge the setup on your terms and will give one uniform reference as well
