i had bought a mf b1 integrated amp on ebay uk and it came in today.

it hooked it up and it is just producing some 'chug chug' kinda sound through the speakers. even without being hooked to the cd player, that's what it does.

any idea what the issue might be.

btw there is a small labed at the back of the amp which reads that the amp is permanently wired for 240 volts and if used at 220 volts it will produce 15% less power. not sure if this is related.

appreciate any insight.

the issue was just a wonky knob. now it is alright.

this amp egged my curiosity because a lot of reviews talked about how it played music instead of a cd. bought it off ebay uk for a princely sum of 80 pounds. 70 pounds shipping. paid 4 k customs (hope to get 2k back on this from fedex).

so for 14k a vintage mf amp.

build quality is not that great - slightly rackety. knobs look cheesy.

tried out a few CDs on a nad cd player : sonny rollins, al stewart, cream, old genesis. a bhajan CD for my wifey.

first impression is that it plays loud, the sound is warm, very natural and lifelike, good seperation, bass is robust and musical. seems to bring out the background (keyboards etc) to the front.

but it lacked sizzle when hooked up to sonus faber concertinos. then hooking it up with b&w lm1 i could see it pairs more naturally with high sensitivity speakers.

i think i will have quite some fun with it.
