I was eager to get into the vinyl music after hearing at one of the Reliance Digital showrooms with Lenco builds. Got the opportunity when there was a sale in the forum from FM "shafic". I took the plunge with a hassle free transaction and dealing with Mr.Shafic. I got the parcel delivered through the transport service with a superb packing from shafic :clapping:

The parcel arrived yesterday but with some other commitments I was not able to go to the transport office and more than me shafic was very concerned as the parcel office would not properly deal with the handle - fragile items :D. But thankfully because of the superb packing all the items were intact. Many thanks to Mr.Shafic to deliver it so nicely. Very nice gentleman to deal with.

Now coming to the TT, the first look was looking old but after I unpacked it was a monster, very heavy with the wooden plinth (looks like a Teakwood). Everything is working superbly and in the meantime I got couple of vinyls which I like the most. Out of the box it sounds superb no second thoughts, I realized I was missing this kind of music till now. I would say way way ahead than a CD playback for the sound quality. My journey has started and may be many happy years with this well build and nicely maintained TT.

Here are some of the pictures :clapping:

Congratulations,nice TT.What cart are you using,and phonostage.

Regards,
Sachin

Thanks Sachin,

It came with the stock cart and I am using with my Denon 510ae built-in phonostage. I need to increase the volume to around 12 o'clock to get the required volume on the amplifier. But it does sound super. My first ever TT so I am happy with how it is performing and I am going to invest in a good collection of vinyls.

Great, it came with cart.Shafic gave you at very good price. The sound will improve very much if you use a better quality outboard Phonostage. You will also need to upgrade cart later,as this TT has potential. It uses the same moter which comes with AR TTs IIRC.

Sachin

@manniraj congratulation & welcome to the world of vinyl records & TT. Philips242 is a very nice BD tt and thanks to Shafic, you got it in a NM condition.

One important point IMHO is properly setting up the TT. Kindly read various threads here to learn how to align the cart., adjust VTA/vtf etc. All these are very basic to get proper sound frm a TT, also to protect your Stylus & records.

Secondly as Sachin advised get an outboard Phono-stage. And I must recommend Shachin's DIY CNC phono stage. We all use it and confidently endorse this as absolutely the best simple DIY PS. Use it and you'll know.

Be patient and slowly build-up your vinyl rig.......all the best.

Regards,

Bhaskar

Yes Sachin very satisfied with the TT and especially shafic giving at a very good price for starters like me. Will look into the dedicated outboard phonostage. Initial impressions the cart is sounding very nicely and may be after some months will look into the option of replacing it.

Great stuff to own, all the best and its cache for eyes hope it would treat your ears well too.

I got some links just checkout in you are free

Beginner's Guide To Turntables - Home Listening Edition — TurntableLab.com

Thanks for the link and wishes. Yes its just mesmerizing to listen to the vinyls, clear and crisp vocals, super instrument separation and indepth bass my DIY Zaph audio speakers are singing for the first time to its full extent. I heard a Ghazals vinyl today and wow Pankaj Udhas, Jagjit Singh and Ghulam Ali have come alive.

Thanks Amit, I think your visit to my place is long pending. May be we can take it up this weekend with your Marantz amplifier and some more vinyls with my Zaph speakers. We can take it over the PM for the same.

Yes Record Player I am overwhelmed with how good it sounds and Shafic's passion for vinyls and superb packing. I would highly recommend him to get a TT as shipping will not be a problem at all.

Coming to the TT I am not sure how old it is but it looks and sounds as a brand new. I am fortunate to get my hands on this TT which is my first in the vinyl world.

Thanks

11)) Must say, what you got here, was one thousands times better than that plastic lenco you found in the stand of reliance marts.. I tried listening to them in reliance, awwwwwwwwwk... to an extent I could blame it on the reliance demo set up. than lenco.

22) Dealing with shafic, he is not a trader or a money maker. He has some passion in to sharing his audio-wealth, like warren buffet.. A wonderful , simplisitic , passionate , altruistic person I have ever come across here..Month ago, I only admonished him for selling his previous TT at a throw away price, for his ethic forced me to ignore me, for my PM to book it reached slightly late..

I've seen this Philips 242 TT at a friends' place and few more over the internet of course..and this is by far the best looking one I've seen! Amazing condition! Congrats! You've got a very nice first TT :) It looks very sturdy and heavy! What's the exact weight of this?

You mentioned it aptly "A wonderful , simplistic , passionate , altruistic person" i happened to source a Dual 1229 from his as well...and what a fantastic experience. He was guiding all way round till the parcel reached here. Really happy with the purchase and a new found Vinyl friend :) .
In the process of configuring the TT with help from him , sachin...
We have a good bunch of "die-hard" friendly forum members, who can go to any limits to share their audio passion. Really fortunate to be part of this forum.

cheers,
Vincent

Not sure about the weight but its very sturdy with the wooden plinth. Yes there are some scratches on the outer box which are minor which I will plan to rectify after sometime but in the meantime only music nothing else :D
