So here is my latest.....................the supreme Nakamichi 680ZX a Deck which a NAK enthusiast once commented that he would love to take it to his grave. And why not!! Its a real black beauty,a piece which one would love to cherish of possessing.
To start with.......well these models do not come for cheap and I had to import it from the west and I do not mind spending on such a piece.A Deck which has some unique features amongst which the dual speed option stands out which I think no other Nak deck has (pls correct me if I am wrong). The Auto Azimuth facility gives u the best of recording and boy what an output when I play my cassettes.I am still half way through exploring the piece and what minor issues I have found is the calibration for Normal cassettes need to be redone which needs some technical assistance. But with the present calibration itself the output is blowing me away. For Metal Tapes the calibration is absolutely perfect and it shows off in the recording as well.
This 680ZX can challenge anyone to distinguish the audio whether its played on a Tape or a Vinyl when the 680ZX is played.Trust me as I toggle the monitor and tape switch when am recording there is hardly any audible difference in the output as shown in the video below which I recorded while doing a recording from Vinyl. Its exactly the same sound recorded which is played at source. And thats what we say the NAKAMICHI SOUND.
So this is my 6th Nak and am in the hunt for few more which will surely complete my quest for the different NAKS specialised for their unique quaiities in each of them.
