Hi guys, i am new to this forum and this is my first post:clapping:

Last week i bought an LG 42 PJ350 at an exorbitant price with no freebies from a shop in kollam:sad::sad::sad:

Please guide me in the following issues:

1. Which connection to take? Is asianet digital tv good enough for a 42"screen? Or is it better to go for a DTH connection(yeah, it rains too much in kerala:rolleyes:) ? Will HD DTH (which is @1080i i guess) work on a 720p screen? I use the tv mostly for watching sports and movies and sometimes for malayalam channels.

2. What is the optimum settings after the initial burn in period? I have tried different modes and settings, but the PQ doesnt look so good.

3. Is there any solution for this reflection problem:o? like getting some extra panel in the front?

4. Does it really play 1080p vids via usb? The manual says that USB supports 1080p input, but i tried with so many hd vids and it is not even recognising any:mad::mad:

HD DTH will be too good on 42" HD ready screen. Of course it will work on 720p screen.

After the break-in period it is okay to go with any setting. It is during the initial break-in process that you are advised to keep all settings below 50, especially contrast.

Solution for reflection problem??? Don't look for solutions in the TV. Only way to combat reflection is to control the room lighting, like thick curtains, blinds drapes, etc....

About 1080p playback via USB, I don't know. Maybe it will play .mkv files, but even some media players show mild stutter when playing 1080p files so I don't know how a TV's gimmicky USB can play 1080p.

PJ350 does not support HD via usb..

it only supports SD divx formats

also try to give a 100-150 hours of breakin to keep is away from IR.. also try to keep moving channels..

and yes HD DTH will look amazing on it as it gives 720p..

Thanks for the reply:clapping:

for the dth connection, wont it get affected during rains? Here it rains frequently and so i got some suggestions to go for cable with STB. I have no idea as to how different PQ is, with dth and cable stb.

also, is it required to use a UPS for plasma tv? If so, please suggest me some cheap options.

I have never really had problems with STB during the rains, though you may get transmission glitches during a thunder storm, during which it is advisable to turn off any electrical components anyway.

As regards the use of a UPS for plasma, are you referring to computer UPS?? Because if it is computer UPS then I think it is not really necessary. Just get a good surge protector form Belkin or something. I too used to use a computer UPS for backup but stopped after getting a Belkin surge protector.

Namaskaram Chatha..... :D :D

1.DTH is much better than Asianet Digital TV(i had both, now only Asianet - will be going for HD DVR soon)...its better if u can get the HD DTH,else go for ordinary DTH.Yea, whenever rain comes, the DTH used to go scrambled and cease reception, but thats only with heavy rain.I would say the PQ difference is worth it though.

2.Trust ur eyes, take some time(even days) and tweak.IMHO, no one can tell u what looks good for u and what doesnt.

3.Make the room as dark as possible atleast for viewing periods and avoid lights in front/opposite to the screen.

4.No idea.

Ok. I will get that surge protector.

I think you guys have convinced me to go for the dth. Now lemme check out the good ones in my locality.

Anyway i am quite pissed of with LG as they have written that it accepts 1080p input via USB which is not the actual case.

Can i solve this 'HD via usb' problem by using a dvd player which can accept 1080 input?

DTH will be any day better than cable..

also only with heavy rain might be an issue however the same can be with cable as well..

also get a surge protector.. else get a 600va ups worth 1000 rs for the same. this will also prevent your tv from instant shut down and back up for next 20 mins or so...

where does LG claims that it accepts 1080p vis USB.. i doubt...

also i had 3 ups.. one for pc 2nd for xtreamer , external hdd and logi z-5500, third for tata sky HD, tv, dvdp, hathway.

now removed all of them got the invertor.. hehe.. but a good surge protector is definitely a good option... but will be pricey though.
for the same amount of belkin 6 socket and surge protector you can get a UPS of 600-700va..

So will an instant shut down affect a plasma tv? belkin surge protector seems to be available for 700 bugs in some online site. I was just abt to book it.

Now that my tv is not accepting full hd vids via usb, can it show Hd dth channels or accept(just accept) hd via hdmi or an ext. dvd player? sorry for askin the same question! I am a noob:yahoo:

Instant shut down will not harm a plasma TV but fluctuation (i.e light going off for a brief period and coming back on) might.... I hope you have not bought the Belkin surge suppressor yet. Check what type it is first. It should be Gold Series. Reason is that the Gold Series gives you damage coverage of upto 1 lakh. If you managed to find a Gold Series for 7oo bucks then damn good. Otherwise normally Gold Series costs around 1500 bucks.

Yes, the TV will accept HD signals from any source.
