Hi, I have finally decided to take leap into the Vinyl world, I live in Jammu & Kashmir, and vinyl isn't big here nor do we have specialist stores dealing with TT set up. 5.1 and Digital System rules the roost here, I need a advice on TT and 2 Floor standing speakers, Looking for a Budget set up. But little Clueless on which TT and floor standing speakers to go with. Any advice will be appreciated.

Hello Farebi - Firstly, welcome to HFV and a warm welcome to the Vinyl World.

Here's a small checklist for you to start:

1. Turntable
2. A Phonostage
3. Speakers (BS OR FS)

For the benefit of the audience, can you specify if you are looking at pre-owned equipment as a lot of forum members here can be of help to you. Can you also specify a budget for each of the items you are looking for. You could also mention your taste of listening and room dimensions etc for appropriate suggestions. Post which you can start a Wanted thread if its going to be pre-owned equipment.

BTW, have you thought of anything in particular?

Thanks for the reply, I have zeroed it on Technics TT from what i can gather over the internet Under 12k, Pre Owned TT will also do the trick as long as it is in good working condition. I'll prefer Floor standing speakers, i have a Yamaha AV receiver working with my 5.1 set up.

I am looking for a budget set up, since it will be my first vinyl set up and i want to be familiar with something in which i am going to invest.

1) Floor Stand Speakers, New/Pre Owned budget should not exceed 20k

2) TT Budget 7-12k New/Pre owned (Preferably technics)

3) Phonostage? Is it necessary since i have a Yamaha AV receiver.

4) This set up is exclusively for ProgRock/Metal, No other style/genre will be played on TT, for other styles i have a 5.1 set up. On Vinyl music will be ProgRock/Metal of the present time and there influences, Like King Crimson, Velvet Underground, Steven Wilson, Opeth, Tool etc..

5) Room is 14x10 Length-Width.

I'll be more than willing to buy any pre owned equipment.

Thank you!

If you are in the same city or physically check the product, then you can give it a try, otherwise not. Many deals on quickr and olx have been reported to be fake. So be careful.

I always wanted to brag Phillips AF 834 TT, for few reassons and also wish to compare the similaraties to highend TT

1 . tone arm : if you notice most of the high end TT comes with a straight tonearm

2. Most of the High end TT's are belt driven, they say it helps to eradicate the noise and vibration of the motor

3. most of the TT's which are considered to be audiophile grade have anti skate and counter weight

4. very simple circuitry to add to the noise cancellation due to power flow ... even the tone arm automatically goes back by a mechanical activity, no motor etc is involved

5. most of the tonearm which have removable head shell makes it easier for cartridge mounting ... some people use two head shell and mount two different cartridges, change as per their taste and choice with ease

This are few things which i could recollect at the moment
