Need help, Garrard 6400 restoration

I have a Garrard 6400 from a friend.
It is not working.
I wanted to have a TT to experience its charm on OB + tube combination.

I need help from experts to know
1) is it possible by a layman (with usable common sense and engineering kind of a thinking mind) to open this TT, clean it and restore it?
2) if at all parts are broken/damaged is it possible to get them in Baroda or somewhere nearby like Ahmedabaad or Bombay or from friends of HFV across India?

I have requested help from Hiten in PM already. It seems he does not check his PMs much. So, here I am with the questions to all of you.

My answers:

Q-1: Yes, you really don't need to have much knowledge of electronics to fix a Garrard turntable, which is a mechanical device (except a few aspects where a soldering iron would have to be used)

Q-2: You should try your luck, there are a lot of broke Garrard turntables lying around. I would say, for every 1 Garrard turntable in use today (in India) there would be about 10 lying somewhere, rotting.

Getting it to work will depend on what's actually broke or what's actually missing. If you encounter missing parts, that's going to be one tough restoration.

sorry for not replying. Please post the problem the turntable is having. I am no expert but will try. Also see if idler wheel and cartridge with stylus is OK. If idler is hardened first see the availability. If not available there is no point in restoring. most of the parts in the mechanism are metal so they won't be having any problem I guess. Tonearm base is having some bias mechanism for tracking force, cueing and lifting of tonearm they are delicate, so take precaution. As these are not high end turntable (but better than some HMV and Philips) best way would be to lubricate without dismantling anything and see if you like the sound of it. Having said If the turntable came free and if you enjoy tinkering with turntables and restoring things I am sure you will enjoy it. There is nothing to loose only gain experience which will help you in the future.

What is idler? I will search it too in net now.
I will go forward. Time is the only problem.
This TT was idle for 10 years or more. I suppose nothing is broken. Let's see.

See if the rubber on the idler wheel is soft or not. Otherwise replace it. I had taken good no. of pics of garrard restoration but unfortunately I deleted them. I sold my Garrard to a friend with a promise from him that he will donate the amount to charity.
You may be aware of this.. Garrard 6400 restoration
it has few pics. which may help you. You can do the same, take pics as you progress it will be of help when you reassemble the turntable.
