Dear member,

I have recently purchased yamaha YHT 294 ht . I want to connect it to my tata sky he plus stb, there are three ways in which I can do it

1) connect the stb to tv via Hdmi and then connect the avr to tv via optical out ( my tv supports 5.1 optical out )

2) connect the stb to tv via Hdmi and then connect the avr to stb via optical out.

3) connect the stb to avr via Hdmi and connect the tv to avr via Hdmi.

Which one is the best alternative so that I can experience tru dd 5.1 surround sound.

With these settings will I be able to get dd+ 5.1 surround sound too.

Awaiting your prompt responses .

Option 2 will only give u 5.1 sound as none of the DTH operators till now provide 5.1 over HDMI :( I too have the same setup only Airtel DTH instead of Sky

1. Option 3 will be the best as you will be getting the 5.1 output for all HD channels. Your preference should be the "Straight" mode as in this mode you will be getting the original sound effects without DSP by the AVR. But in this case, you have to keep your AVR connected and atleast in Standby mode if to get the STB signals to your TV.

2. For other channels (SD and without 5.1 output), you can select "Dolby Prologic" or "Dolby PLII Movie".

3. It will be better if you connect the HDMI out of AVR to HDMI with ARC in your TV.

4. I have Onkyo, and the AVR automatically switches between "Direct" and "PLII" or other selected modes for HD and non HD sources for Tata HD STB. IMO, Yamaha should also be offering the same function.

Hope this helps.
