Hi...I got few team members going to US this weekend and thought now that my kids have holidays, better to build a desktop that can last 3-4 years. My current desktop which is also my HTPC, 5 year old assembled is still going strong - but guess in 2019 no harm in building a cheap desktop. I thinking of keeping it below 30K and can get as many parts from US as needed including the case.

(a) I already got Ryzen 5 1600 and Asrock B350 Pro ATX motherboard - both are two years old - but got a killer deal for 120 dollars for both at micro center - so thats 9k already
(b) Is it worthwhile to get desktop cases from US? I need to ask my friend to get it in place of a suitcase. If the price difference between a US and Indian one is 1-2K, would rather buy it in India - but I am guessing good cases in India is atleast 20-40% expensive, particularly when one is on sale in US. I would want one with tempered glass so that the RGB lights stand out
(c) What kind of RGB fans do I buy? 40-50 dollars on Amazon US seem to have a good options
(d) RAM - was thinking of this https://slickdeals.net/f/12996454-1...t-80-newegg?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1
(e) Graphics card - this desktop is for my 12,13 year old kids for pubg kind of gaming and youtube video edits - so hoping i can skip on GPU for now.

Do let me know if any one you happen to look at current offerings for desktop parts -whether in US or India.

So budget is somewhat like this

CPU+MOBO - 9000 https://slickdeals.net/f/12905065-a...tore-pickup?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1
Case - 4000 - https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Tempered-Mid-Tower-Pre-Installed-CA-1K8-00M1WN-01/dp/B07FL1D5RV/ref=sr_1_11?keywords=desktop+case&qid=1555006540&refinements=p_36:1253505011,p_72:1248879011&rnid=1248877011&s=electronics&sr=1-11
Memory - 6000 https://slickdeals.net/f/12996454-1...t-80-newegg?src=SiteSearchV2_SearchBarV2Algo1
Power - 3000 https://www.amazon.in/Cooler-Master-MWE-450-Watt-Supply/dp/B075F7VZG2/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=desktop+power+supply&qid=1555006355&refinements=p_72:1318476031&rnid=1318475031&s=gateway&sr=8-4
Storage - 8000 https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-1TB-...+1tb+nvme&qid=1555006453&s=electronics&sr=1-3
RGB fans - 3000 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079JFHQMS/ref=psdc_11036291_t3_B07B96SJMG?th=1

Will connect it to my 7 year old Panasonic 50XT50 till I buy a new TV. Already have several wireless keyboards and mouse.

Few options I am considering to reduce the price :
(a) RAM - go for 4X2 gigs memory as its for simple gaming - MOBO seem to have 4 slots..i can always add 16 GB later - can save 2-3K here
(b) Storage - go for 240 gigs for 2K https://www.amazon.com/Kingston-240...|14027459011&rnid=6797515011&s=pc&sr=1-3&th=1
(c) Power - something like this for 1K only https://www.amazon.in/Zebronics-ZEB...89:Zebronics&rnid=3837712031&s=gateway&sr=8-1

I am no techie..just interested in tech - will ask a friend to help me assemble

Do give me your suggestions for cheaper but good alternatives as i need to order over the weekend since they are leaving US next Thursday. I am hoping all the above are compatible with each other!!! Happy to buy it from Amazon India or SP Road if its not worth the hassle of buying it from US

Thanks in advance for all your help!

The case itself has Total 4 fans pre-installed. 3 RGB ones in the front and 1 at the back.
Ryzen 5 1600 does not have internal graphics, so you will need a GPU.
Avoid cheap power supplies.

games like pubG and fortnite can be played without graphics card right? cheapest rx570 will set me back by 130 dollars

also can you recommend decent cases i can buy in india itself..slightly premium with tempered glass. thx

The CPU & MB combination which you have is good per se, but the CPU does not have onboard graphics, so you will require a GPU even just to get the display on the monitor. RX570 is overkill for the games you have mentioned.

AMD Ryzen 2200G & 2400G have onboard graphics called Vega 8 & Vega 11, which are tremendously better than Intel's onboard graphics.

Note the first digit of both the CPU, the one you have is 1 series and the ones I mentioned are 2 series.

2 series AMD CPU is not compatible with your B350 motherboard straightaway out of the box. Either you will need an older AMD CPU to install first and update the BIOS, which will then support 2 series, or you will have to check with the manufacturer if the version of motherboard you have is already having the BIOS update (which is very unlikely).

Thanks Mayank - I did google for the Bios since it was mentioned in many places as an issue - but i found newer posts mentioning that latest motherboards do come with updated Bios. I will again google today and if its an issue..will ask my team member to get a 2600 and mobo combo and may be i can see the 1600 in india for a decent profit!

2400g vs 1600 comparison here https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/AMD-Ryzen-5-2400G-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5-1600/m433194vs3919
given i got the processor and mobo for dirt cheap price - and its for kids..hopefully wont be an issue - will wait for 570 to crash below 100 dollars and pick it up later. also my kids plan to edit youtube videos and hence hoping six cores should be better.

The only issue thats still bogging me down is the case - will do some more research today.

Contact Asrock with the serial number of your MB, they will tell you if it has the updated bios.

2200G and 2400G are terrific for HTPC and even upper-end games. Full HD 4K support / 40 to 60 FPS with medium to high settings, blows Intel's onboard HD Graphics any day. Dedicated core power and its utilisation will depend on the software you are going to use and generally a better motherboard and more ram helps rather than having a thread ripper CPU. For Youtube video editing, even a dual core or quad core CPU will do. Not to mention the law of diminishing returns above 6 or 8 cores, unless you have the software designed to use many cores.

Ryzen loves high-speed ram. Would suggest getting the highest speed ram your budget will permit, but that would again depend on the MB specs. Look up your MB specs and see what speeds (2400/2600/3000) etc it supports. Note the letters OC next to the speed - like 3000(OC). Speeds of 3000 is supported only in overclocking mode, so both your ram and MB must be up to it. Compatibility is critical.

There is one assembled PC for sale by @sud98 I think check it out. Price is very good and you can get only the parts which you need for upgrade like the graphics card etc., saves a lot of money.
