Hello Everyone.

I am new to this forum and also new to vinyl. I just recently purchased a Panasonic turntable for $5 at a garage sale yesterday. The only information on the TT is a small round tag on the front that says 'Model 300'. The sticker on the back of the TT says >> 'Panasonic Automatic Turntable Model SL-275. Matsushita Electric Industrial CO.LTD. Made in Japan'. <<

It is all brown wood with the exception of the front that has a brushed aluminum trim. The turntable itself seems to be placed on springs which I am assuming will keep any outside vibration from making the needle skip. I have seen pictures of sl-220, sl-230 and this one looks nothing like any of those. I also understand that Panasonic also makes Technics? Correct me if I am wrong although this TT says nothing about Technics. The 'arm' has a 'stylus pressure' knob which I am assuming it is to apply pressure to the LP. Also on the side of the arm there is a small knob for 'Anti-Skating Control' which I have no idea what that means. The rest of the options are I am sure the same for all. 7", 10", and 12" LP selection. Also the speeds selection of 33, 45, and 78. Has 'Stop', 'Man', and 'Start' selection as well.

Please help. I would like to find any info to make this TT better and to clean it up inside and out.

Thank you,:clapping:

I found nothing there regarding this TT. Maybe I should buy a new one. Although I like the vintage look. Only reason why I purchased this.

Thanks anyways...Hope the picture comes out..

The arm looks like the Philips 242 arm.
It is a mid to low end TT from the 80s. Its not entirely a bad thing to have. Will be great as a first TT. Play with it for a while.
Then, fi you think that Vinyl is your thing, graduate to a new TT like a Project or something.

It is a idler wheel drive autochanger , produced around 1972/73. Quality of manufacturing and performance should be good. You shall not find info about that on the net. Clean it, but before doing that try to check if you can see traces of old lubricant anywhere. Make a note of that. I suspect that you shall not see any grease anywhere as the geared wheels are nylon or some such material. It is adviseble not to use any lubricant on these. You can lubricate the spindle shaft and the ball race bellow that, and also the motor and idler wheel hub. If the idler wheel has become hard with uneven edge, you shall have to refurbish that. clean the inner surface of the inner platter (this unit has a double platter) with isopropyl alcohol and ensure that no lubricant gets on this inner surface and the idler wheel edge.

Best Luck,

Yes I remember know. My mother used to have a cabinet with a TT and 8track with reciever. This one two does have the auto changer. Thanks for reminding me Analogadikt. I'll make sure I take your notes and apply it when I do clean it. It does operate in ever selection, although it has the older RCA plugs which I do not have a reciever to check the sound quality just yet.

Thank you guys. I'll let you know how it goes from here. And yes this is my first TT and hopefully graduate to a better one later.

Manny thanks!

I found out what this unit is and also found a service manual which should be arriving next week. I had a receiver that apparently goes with this TT. It is a combination stereo system model SE-2075. It was put in the market sometime in 1973. There was an article regarding this unit in which was considered the higher end of the SE models at that time. Of course we are talking about 1973. No speakers so I will have to locate some to manage a sound. Right now everything powers up.
