Hi Folks,

Im planning to purchase Onkyo HTIB HT S5400 after some reading on the product however Im still wanting to know of more options that I can consider. My budget is around 45k and cant stretch beyond. My requirement will be 70% music and 30% Movies.

I also like to build a system but if its within my budget, will be interested on Yamaha or Denon AVRs. Kindly suggest the models and speakers that may go well with them.

Hi Prakash,

I wonder why you prefer Onkyo 7.1 set-up being music lover:),as the HT set-up would be good for Movie experience but not impressive like Stereo.

As you have pretty good budget, just try for a good AVR like Yamaha\Denon+Floor standings (If you have enough space in room)\Good Book shelf+Center and later upgrade with the Rear+ Surround.

My suggestion would be building the HT step-by step is better than getting it on one shot. The reason is The HT set-up cannot be upgraded easily, clearing(Selling) them later is not easy task. But if you dont have any idea of upgrading say another 4-5 years, then Go with Onkyo HT.

All th best for your purchase and set-up

htibs are joke for music...
music is horrible in my onkyo 3400 even with very good files
get simple integrated amp and good speakers...fs or bookshelves...and decent cables will do the job
whats your source?
get snodyne/wharfedale others acoording to your ears...

however for movies an avr is good.then invest step by step.get a centre and fronts.later get rears and sub.

Denon 1713 AVR plus KEF 100 bookshelves? While KEF300 is what everyone recommends, with your budget the 100 would be a better starting point. Allows you to invest in the better AVR upfront. Speaker upgrade can then happen in future without incurring the cost of AVR upgrade too.

Thanks for all your replies... I've now started to think per your suggestions, i need help i knowing of yamaha, denon, marantz or onkyo AVRs with 5.1/7.1 channel and output of 100 watts/channel and must also power an active sub of atleast 150 watts. Unsure of how much it will cost, i'd like to keep the cost within 30k max for AVR alone and also help me with floor standing of book shelf speakers that may go along with the diff models.

suggest to go for a good AVR + 2 BS speakers for the fronts. This will give you much better audio than any HTIB system. You can later add a centre speaker, surrounds, subwoofer later and build the system bit by bit.

If you still insist on a full 5.1 system, then your best bet would be to go with an entry level AVR + 5.1 satellite speaker system.

I was into some research per all your advice, i want to know more information on Sonodyne's SIA 320. I liked the 'reviews' available for Sonodyne Sonus 2605 V3. Spoke to a Sonodyne personnel from the back office in Lalbagh Road, Bangalore, disappointed to know that they do not have demo facility and speakers are displayed in Eva Mall, Bangalore with/without demo again.

Any suggestions on where i can audition these in Bangalore... Thanks!

Also need suggestions on AVRs that may go well with Sonodyne Sonus 2605 V3. I have a feeling that a dedictaed stereo amp will be the better option however i want to understand the options and decide further. Budget for AVR is 20 - 27k max.

you are correct a 20k streo amp will blow a 30k avr in sound qiality...
but for stereo amp you have to have good/clean source and decent cables...so consider that..
even sonodyne 15k amp will perform better than any 30k avr...

for low budget avr 1612 denon is good.but it depends on peronal taste of acoustics..so check with different avrs..for driving fs 1912 or similar other brands will be better trhan 1612 imho.

Hi FMs can you pls advise on avr(s) that can support Sonodyne FS - 2605. My budget for avr is 30k max, some previously suggested models i was unable to locate in the market.
