Hi Guys,

I have connected a Pioneer VSX 456 Pioneer VSX-456 Manual - Audio Video Stereo Receiver - HiFi Engine ) to drive Yamaha 8390.

According to the specs of the amp its a 100 watts per channel into 8? (stereo). Am I about to burn the speakers. and if i want to connect other speakers to the same amp. what should i keep in mind?

I was using a PULZ 180 previously to drive these speakers but I was not satisfied with the output.

Please help guys.

from a brief glance of the specs they seem a match. the speakers should be able to take what the amp gives it. to ensure longevity of the speakers, dont play it at extra loud volumes for prolonged periods

Suresh,

Pioneer AVR gives 100w per channel as per the Papers and Yamaha can run with Max load of 200W as per the paper.

Recommendation is use atleast 2* the Maximum of the speaker wats to push them to the Max.

Your Amp might start sending noise\distortion by 70-80 Watts to the speakers, which is 12-2 O clock position.

So my advice is, Just dont push the AVR much, it might damage the Speakers When you use them for Stereo mode.Else buy one Stereo amp :-)

Hi Audio Freek,

I have couple of options behind my AVR where I can select the impedance like 6-16ohms or 8-16. Do you I should use it.I am also planning to use this AVR to connect other speakers at a later stage. I just love the power receiver has but a little concerned about the problems this might cause.

Suresh,

When the Ohms increases the Load Decreases. Your speaker could go down to 4 Ohms load and below at point of time playing Music and damage the speakers ;some time Amps get issues due to Heating Up.

Most of the speakers are of only 6 Ohms and less nowadays so the changing of setting ,Not going to help Much.

You could connect all the speakers and run them,Its not dangerous at all, But dont crank the volume.Another important thing is ,When you play the Music in 5.1 Setup the speakers are feed almost equally so you never like to tun up the volume and no hassle of getting the speaker damage.

But when we play music, Yes we tend to enjoy it by raising the Volume Level.

So connect all the speakers to the receiver, Select the Front Speaker as "Big" and start enjoying the music\Movie at nomial volume.

The best way sense the threshold is when your Yamaha starts to blare instead of reproducing music, Once you hear that Just reduce the volume and contunie listening.

Hi Audio Freek,

Thank you so much for replying.

Looks like the best way to deal everything is to not exceed 12'0 clock on volume. I will be using it as 5.1 later this year. So now i have start my search for speakers I guess.:ohyeah:

Regards

Suresh

Dont Go with Wattage, Its a factor to be considered and not the Only Factor. So go with the Same Series of Speaker for Center and rear.

For center and rear 50w to 70 W should suffice.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
