All,

I am planning to set up my home theater for living room. Need suggestion for the combination of Receiver and Speakers.

My Budget is 1L

I am looking for Denon X1000 with wharfdale DX1.

Is there a place in bangalore where i can try this? Do you think any other combination of receiver and speakers would be good.

It would be mostly for movies and occasional music.

Please advice

TIA

1 lakh is a decent budget. Why dont you try good floor standers and sub to start with?

DX1 is an excellent product, no doubt on that, However you will never get the depth & warmth of big speakers from these small satellites, the reason being simple, physics of acoustics & movement of sound waves. I have a denon avr, why dont u try yamaha and marantz?? What wattage you look at and whats ur room size?

This is for my living room 18*25.

DX1 and x-1000 i have shortlisted basedon the reviews i heard from different forums. Frankly speaking i am new to this and i am trying to learn the ABCD..:-) of it.

Need help in suggesting a good speaker+amp.

I understand. Denon is bright avr and marantz and yamaha are warm in sound. Marantz is better than denon (though both belongs to same company) for music which may not be of your preference. Try yamaha, then denon as both have niche sound signature of its own. Never go by fancy features as it will lack quality and your ultimate goal shall deviate from nirvana to feautres you may not use ever. Try tannoy v4, wharfrdale 10 series fs, q acoustics 2020 bs, mourdnt shrt aviano series, kef and focal. Polk rti series is also good. The advantage of fs (floor stander) over bs (bookshelf) speaker is you can invest additional 6-7k on speakers rather than buying speaker stands and will give you more depth. High end bs may give you neutral sounds if you have space constraints. If you invest on right speakers, you may save yourself bitten from upgradation bug in near future. As i recollect from someones signature in hfv, there are no audiophiles, instead those who have money muscle and crazy enough to shell out in audio for perfection. By the way, whats ur max streched budget??

I can stretch by another 30-35K.

The reason i am looking for small speakers is i dont want huge speakers in my living room as i have small kids and could easily hurt themselves and moreover my wife is also against big speakers in living.
So I would be more aligned to Satellite/Bookshelf speakers at best .

Understood. q acoustics 2020i bs is the award winner bookshelf for 2014. Try along with yamaha 675/575 with svs/sunfire subs (HSU is not available here) and centre channel speaker. You may add surrounds later. Stand will cost you another 6-7 k from magma & you are done. I would not recommend satellites (you will understand it later). If you are too fond of satellites, try wharfedale dx1 along with yamaha or energy micro along with same or denon avr.

Pran ,

Thanks for the details. Is there a place in bangalore where we can try this?

I checked with the SVS website which refers to a dealer in coimbatore and who gave me a number in chennai which is not reachable.

I tried their global site to see whcih SUB is best for Q Acoustics 2020 , it listed SVS SB-1000

:-)I tried with ARN systems in banaglore , the SVS SB-1000 Seems to cost upward 35K + . and they dont have q acoustics at their end to try .

and BTW , what brand Center Speaker would go well with this.,assuming
i get the Yamaha 575 / SVS SB-1000 and Q acoustics 2020i ?
and last question is there a significance difference between sealed and Ported Subwoofer ?

Sorry for too many questions. I am trying to do the research and need help from folks likeyou to understand better:-)

From where did you get the price of 35k?? :o pls share the contact details.. Svs sb is starting from 45-49k as far as i remember. Pls always go for centre channel of the same brand and same model else the tonality & integration will never match . Sealed sub is good for music and ported sub will give you an xtra oomph to movies. Its a debatable topic, better your ear may be the best judge. Also ported svs is huge an take a space more than a tea table. Audire is dealer for svs in chennai and bass and treble in delhi. Check the forum for demo venue details as i have a little idea about the same.

proFX, HTstore.in.

pran has already given you few good advice advice.
Audition before you buy anything, don't go by just reviews which might be excellent in other living room might not be suitable for your and 1L is lot of money, spend it wisely to get the best juice out of the purchase.

Denon is good with Polk.consider Polk tsx330/tsx440 it will be gr8.Yamaha with whaferdales and heca victa will be also good.Yamaha is good for music.Denon serves both .Go and auditiion in Profx. For yamaha vector systems in Bridade road.

FOlks,

Got the SVS price list from Audire .

SB1000 BLACK Rs. 54,000.00

PB1000 BLACK Rs. 56,400.00

SB12 NSD CHARCOAL Rs. 59,400.00

So it cost a upward of 50K only for the SUB and he was recommending triad speakers.
They are in chennai and not in bangalore. So even to try this i might have to travel to chennai to check .

does any one know how good are these speakers ? Atleast the Audifire folks were saying they are much better than Q acoustics.

Super confused????????now

Try borderlinx.. The sub will come for less than 46k. These dealers want to make fortune by adding additional burden on customers.. India is becoming like foreign countries and the sales of amazon and ebay prooves it!

The PB12 NSD is priced at 59,400 by Audire whereas the estimate at ishop shows 87k. SB1000 landing price is 56k as per ishop, while it is 54k locally with warranty.

I would recommend to go for Cambridge audio minx setup. Your room looks clean and you get desired sound. You can audition it at audio planet koramangala.

For music you buy some good bookshelf speakers.

Please find thelayout of the flat, the system is meant for living which is open from 3 sides .

The only change is dining is removed completely and L shaped sofas will be placed near the dining . The TV unit remains where it is now and speakers and woofers will be placed below around the TV unit

Auditioned

WharfDale 10.1 with Wharfdale Center speaker and whardale Sub SW150.
This seems to be better or may be the sales person convinced me ;) . Atleast at lower volumes the sound was pretty clear and neat.

The entire pack minus the srround cost approx 1.1L approx

So any thoughts?

is it good combo and is it a VFM?

@ Sunil: Monitor Audio BX 5 is far superior than Wharfedale. Try side by side demo and you will see the difference (of course with a warm AVR only). WF have tight bass, clarity is better in MA with sight boominess.

Thanks Pran.

I will check the Monitor Audio BX5. However i tried the Q acoustics 2020i , and i felt far superior compared to wharfdale . I tried with 2020i front and 2000CI CS and 2070i SUB all from Q acoustics with 2010i Surrounds. I felt the sound level more clear and cripser at lower volumes all with Denon 1713 as The delaor didnt have Denon X1000. I am assuming with Denon X1000 it should sound much better than as what i auditioned . Any thoughts?

Regards
Sunil
