Friends,

First I would like to apologize if this questions seems very basic But I need your help.:)

I have LG Plasma TV 42" which has HDMI and Optical audio out and This plasma TV has feature of Dolby Digital Decoder.

So I would like to connect blu ray player to TV by HDMI cable and will connect 5.1 Home theater by Optical cable through audio out.

So this set up will work and if works, Can i get 5.1 surround sound as it has Dolby digital decoder.

or if any better options is available, where I have 20K budget.

Hi,

20k budget will give you HTiBs..which are compact and available fofrom LG or Sony or Samsung or Philips...visit electronics store to understand better and also hear them.

If u want a proper 5.1 setup, you will need to increase ur budget...systems start from 30k onwards and run into lakhs...all depends on your needs, budget etc.

Read threads under Home Theatre section and also click on my name for related posts

Could you give more information like Make and model number of the 5.1 Home Theater you have?

Based on the 5.1 device you have, we can recommend the optimal connection settings for surround sound.

Okay...re-read your post after efernand1's reply and I get that you now have only the TV and looking to buy a 5.1 system to use with it.

If your budget of 20K is limited to both blu-ray player and 5.1 speakers, then your best option is to go for Bluray player-HT combo packages from brands like Sony, LG, Phillips etc. that are generally available in electronic stores.

When you use a player-HT combo package, you only need to connect it to your TV using a HDMI cable and no need to use the optical audio out from your TV.

Sure, I have plan to buy the recommended HT combo. But I would like to know whether my Idea is working or not. Thank you for your valuable replies.

Pass through of Dolby audio from bluray through HDMI to your TV and then through optical to your Home Theatre is less likely. Better check before buying.

Are you sure, your TV will output 5.1 Audio via optical? Do confirm on that before moving ahead. Usually digital out from TV is Stereo only.

In a budget of 20k, you will not get a Bluray player as well as speakers. If you already have a Bluray Player, look at a 5.1 Speaker Set that can accept digital input. An example below

Logitech Surround Sound Speaker System Z906

OR

Yamaha Home Theater Package Yht-196

You can hear the Yamaha at a Reliance Digital store and take a call.
