I am planning to buy PS3 350GB with move for christmas this year in UK. My usage will be 50% movies and 50% games.

Can anyone tell me the inbuilt bluray player in PS3 bought in UK play bluray/DVD movies bought in India?

Appreciate your help on this..

In da states it is 17.5k.dunno abt uk.please be aware of the situatn dat if sumth screws up SONY wont do even paid service to products bought outside india and givng a ps3 or b.ray playr to local is = to dump it.i had to send my ps3 back to states last month aftr it gave me the YLOD!.

The PS3, if bought from UK will play blu-rays of Region B and DVDs of Region 2. Also note, it will also play region-free DVDs and blu-rays. If your DVD and blu-ray collection is entirely region-free, then you will have no problem playing them with the PS3. Games are usually not a problem. Games are region-coded, but they play with any PS3.

A PS3 bought in India will have Blu-Ray Region Code C and DVD Region Code 5.

Now, when it comes to discs, blu-rays bought in India "generally" are not region-coded, they are region-free. DVDs may or may not be region-coded. It is best to check the packaging before buying discs to see if they are region-coded or not. If you will be importing discs from UK or US, note that US/Canada strictly implement region-coding, i.e. they are coded Region A for blu-rays and Region 1 for DVDs, hence they can only be played back on PS3s bought in the US. UK discs, again you'll have to ensure that the region code matches that of your PS3, depending on where you buy it from.

buy a separate blu ray player....as blu ray players hardly cost 10k indian....and use 40 to 45 watt, whereas the ps3 will use 400 to 500 w....you can play any region game on the ps3 but blu rays and dvds are an issue...in india we get many different region coded dvds so generally all the dvd players and blu ray players officially sold here support all regions for dvd, but not the same for Blu Rays.....PS3 only supports single region for dvds...so you can only play all region or Region 2 DVDs on your ps3 limiting the wide range of dvds being sold in india...I have this problem with my Indian region PS3, I also have an American Blu ray player, and Indian DVD player to work aound the Region Codes :)

The max power consumption of the PS3 slim is around 250W as indicated on the back panel. This is when playing games. With movie playback, it'll be a lot less.

You sure on that?
PlayStation 3 hardware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seems to think that it is about 60W. Which like 10 - 15 % of your claim.

Well I have the Oldest possible ps3 in India.....With four USB and 3 Card slots and 60 GB hard drive which plays PS2 games too and yes it uses about 180-200 watts at normal usage....lesser wattage is only when its idle...which I don't think anyone will keep it....PS3 slim has a different chipset(better nano tech) which consumes lesser power, but has lesser features too....though you can only get ps3 slim now...so yes you are right...but still it will no less than 200 watts(at full power) don't go by wikipedia its an average rating....also this is not only for games but also for BR movies as BR movies use it processors to full capacity. fan noise sometimes disturbs you while watching BR movie...please also check some ps3 reviews like http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-356-4.htm

Hi,

Did you buy from UK? I am also riding on the same boat now. I plan to do same but want to know the disadavntages. Its a good about 6k saving. I dont know why Sony would not give warranty in India?

get it from uk instead of India since it will cost you less to get region free or region 2 bd / dvd from uk amazon than getting the same from India. No separate advantage apart from the initial 1 yr warranty of getting ps3 purchased in India.
