Hello,

Anyone streaming Netflix on their player? Which player do you have and how is the experience? Are you using any unblocker service to access Netflix US?

Thanks in advance.

I have been using Netflix on my SONY Blu Ray Disc player. Unfortunately through the SONY player i can only access the Indian Netflix, but on my Mac i can get to Netflix USA through Smartflix.
Am scratching my head as to how to stream Prime movies in the HT.

What is the model number of your player?

If you are using a DNS unblocker service like SmartDNSProxy (not VPN) then it should work via the Sony player as well.

It is BDP-S490.

I am not using any DNS unblocker. In fact, i don't even know what that means.:o
Netflix app comes preloaded in this Blu Ray player. Any way of loading the Prime app into the player?

DNS Unblocker is an easy way to get around Netflix country restriction without having to change anything on your player. You only have to make some changes to your WiFi router that connects to the internet. The steps are quite easy and are provided with pictures for most popular WiFi routers. For SmartDNSProxy you can see these at Smart DNS Proxy | Setup Instructions for Router

They charge a monthly fee but you get a trial. It is a cat and mouse game between Netflix and these services as Netflix is aggressively trying to block these services. So sometimes you don't get Netflix US for a few days or weeks.

I'm not sure what you mean by Prime app.

Thank you for the DNS clarification, Atharva.
What i meant is that in the SONY, on the home screen, there is an app for Netflix and clicking it triggers Netflix. How do we get a similar app for Amazon Prime Video for my HT?

Ah! I'm not conversant with Bluray players at all but if at all there must be a place to "install" apps kind of like an app store.

BTW, how is your Netflix experience? Any issues with image/sound quality or playback being jittery? Are you able to stream HD quality?

This player looks old so I'd assume all new ones include Netflix. Couldn't find anything on Sony's website for either of their Bluray players.

I am quite satisfied. No image with the sound or image; though i don't stream HD, due to bandwidth issues.

I use Netflix on my good old LG BP 450 player, it's awesome experience,, no jitters complete with HD video and 5.1 audio.
I have a 60mbps connection though and bluray player is connected via ethernet.

My Android TV on the other hands ends up with stereo audio from Netflix, I don't know the reason & I'm unable to get 5.1 working with Android TV m8iis. Xbox 360 plays Netflix in 5.1 format flawlessly.

I am using the Sony BDP S1500. Very happy playing netflix on it. Great picture, 5.1 sound. HDMI out to Receiver. And as far as I know, there is no app as yet for amazon Prime.

Have you tried streaming music (lossless) from your phone (Android) to your players? I suppose with DLNA you can "pull" music from the phone. Are you able to Push instead? i.e I'd like to not have to switch on my TV to browse the phone and pick what to play. Instead I'd like to browse and pick from my phone and on to the player.

Yes you can push. Via bluetooth. Pair the devices, play music on your android phone and it pushes it to marantz. I pushed streaming music to test
it.

Oops, did you mean pushing it to player ? No you cant do that. Atleast on mine.No wireless network. Can do it to the receiver though.

Yes, I meant push to the Bluray player assuming it is WiFi enabled. Do any of the new Wifi enabled players do this?

Hello All,

Sorry if i'm jumping from the middle into this thread to ask my question, but I have similar question to ask the VideoPhile folks here,

I have Cambridge Audio 752BD BlueRay Player with Wi-Fi Dongle, can I use this for Netflix streaming? if so, How?

Regards
TD

Are you connecting your TV to your AVR via HDMI ARC for audio or playing the sound straight through TV?

Via my AVR denon x2200w, the input info shows only two channel output from android TV. I connected via optical cable to AVR still the same issue. My other 5.1 files play perfectly fine via the same route. It appears to be a problem with Netflix Android TV app, numerous people have Same problem with Netflix on android TV. By the way my LG BP 450 and Xbox play Netflix with 5.1 audio effortlessly connected to the same AVR.
But is there any way in Netflix app(On BDP or TV) to save settings such as English subtitle along with stereo audio permanently ?
Nope, the app hasn't got capabilities to change universal settings, only to the particular content being played.
You need to login via web page to change universal content settings.

Easiest way to stream netflix is to get a chromecast, which can solve the issue. It supports hotstar as well. If prime is of interest to you, try firestick instead. This way you do not have to turn on your BR player unnecessarily as well
