new HTPC

i am more inclined towards intel motherboard & intel processor.. other configs:

1 tb hdd
4gb ram
1gb vram

does micro atx cabinet heat-up more than mini-atx?

is it okay to build it myself or get it done by the computer shop guy? :p:p:p

I will suggest you to assemble it yourself if you know basic h/w installation techniques. Go for 2TB HDD instead of 1TB. Look for motherboards having USB3.0 ports. Optical and HDMI ports are not necessary if you are using external graphics card.

thanks but should i go the intel way or asus-amd way?

also i want to use my monitor as tv connected to tatasky hd via hdmi.. is there any downside to this??

I'm personally using AMD based HTPC and satisfied with its performance. Intel display drivers has some problems with DXVA in XBMC. I don't know if it has been solved. It doesn't matter if you are using additional GPU.

Monitor can be used as TV, but usually the viewing angles are very bad.

that right,Optical and HDMI ports are not necessary if you are using external graphics card.

shall i buy the components locally or order from flipkart?

Well SP Road will be Much Cheaper,
If ur budget in 15-17 I would suggest you to go with the following Confi

Intel Pentium - G2020 - SHould cost you around 3200

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H - Which has HDMI Out and USB 3.0 - Cost 4200.

2x2 GB Ram - Shoud Cost around 3400, make sure its 1333Mhz,

Harddisk u have options, If u not going for SSD then 1TB WD Blue, Should Cost u 3800.

and Graphic Card is Needed but depends on ur need,

Do you really need the hdd? Are you going for a purer play htpc then use openelec with XBMC? Save the money on the hdd and just use a flash drive of 8gb or more to install the OS.

While I used Intel, AMD gives better options in that price range.

Try and buy a MB which has HDMI to save costs on a separate graphics card.

4 GB RAM may not be necessary esp. of you are going the openelec route. Since the price diff is not significant, would recommend a single 4 gb ram over two 2 gb rams.
