Hello,

Let me put it simple, want a decent home theatre with specifications as follows:

>Own home decent sized living room, currently housing a PC and a 2.1 Sony player.
>Projector, PS3 (other receiver are also OK) PS3 not because I am game freak, because it has all disc compatibilities, Speakers, anything else .. ???
>Budget of upto 2000 US$ all inclusive.
>Restriction weight only upto 25 kgs all inclusive.
>OK to purchase half here in US and the heavy stuff in india within buget.
>Pupose, watching Movies, good Quality, and compatible with TV as well.. preferred.
>Ready to spend more later, future compatible preferred.
>Planning to purchase a 42" TV, LCD, once in India for my main living room. Can I attach this to that as well?

Ideas, opinins comments most welcome.

Thanks

P.S Caveats and restrictions along with tips for customs for electronic goods from USA also most welcome.

Hi,

It seems I cannot have any help from the forum. I anyways went ahead and bought the following from the USA and escaped the customs without a trace :)

>Mirage Nanosat 5.1 (Surround with Sub woofer)
>Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 720p
>WD HDTV Live Plus
>Logitech Harmony 650 Remote
>HDMI Cables

I want some help regarding the AVR and the transformers. Please post me the link of the threads if they are already posted. Also I would like to get optimum cables to supplement my speakers please suggest.

Good for you. I'm assuming that you have already gone through previous threads that cover most of your areas of interest. What specifically are you looking at? Do you already have an AVR?

You packed circuitcity store in the bag and got escaped from the customs.. .... Boy oh Boy you sure have some mole (lucky one) ....So what help you want for AVR section.. Denon 1611 perfectly pairs with mirage nanosat. I have heard this combo and it sounded very nice... If you have already purchased one in the U.S.A you need a stepdown transformer... Or if you buy locally you dont need one :p ....

Could you list down prices of items you purchased ?

Yeah that was a real steal.
>Mirage Nanosat 5.1 (Surround with Sub woofer)... $350
>Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 720p... $430
>WD HDTV Live Plus... $85
>Logitech Harmony 650 Remote...$50
>HDMI Cables...$3each

I wanted to know what is the best place and also the best model with value for money in mind for the following products:

>Compatible 5.1 or 7.1 Receiver.. (At Reliance Digital Onkyo TX SR307 sells for 16K is this fine?)
>Speaker cables and TOS Link for subwoofer.. (Reliance Digital sells 1m 16gauge for around Rs 160-300 and the TOS for Rs 600.. whereas in the US I can get 50m cable and TOS for around $ 25-30 in Amazon)
>Transformer and Stabiliser??.. (have not checked this yet)

Please help and thanks a lot in advance... It would be of great help if you mention the rating of the transformer for the above set up. Any other tid bits is most welcome.

One thing I understood very well is that electronics is friggin cheap in the US.

Old model , with DTS only

BTW in Mumbai vashi reliance retails sellers were UNAWARE of DTS HD-MA ,for them HDMI was ultimate improvement!:ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:

I finally got myself the transformer or rather a 220V to 110V converter. It is rated for 1000W with a MCB and a meter. This was bought at SP Road Bangalore for 2k. Hope this will supply enough juice for my system.

Help needed for the receiver though.

Finally, after much negotiations with the choice of AVR, I got myself an AVR 1912 :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

Best part, it costed me $450 :ohyeah::ohyeah::ohyeah:

Thanks all!!!

AVR 1912 for 450$??? Man you're lucky. I bought 1911 last year for 33k! Where did you get it from?

That was from India, Bangalore. I forget the name of the shop but it is near richmond circle flyover towards Urvashi, I meant the Grand View Screens.

I can now see the AVR 1912 has fallen down to 350 USD and the AVR 1913, the latest line is available for around 400-420 USD. Buyers remorse and electronics are stitched together. So don't repent and enjoy the moment. I am in the US looking for some Surrounds and a good Center Channel to make my system a 7.1. Rock On!!! :)

Step Down Transformer is non-branded and has been working for 1 and a half years without issues (*touch wood*). Got it at SP Road Bangalore (2kVA) for 2K with Voltage meter and trip switch.

A friend of mine got a 1.5 kVA in Oct 2012 from the same place for 3.5K.
