No 5.1 output from LG LW 5700 !

Hello Guys,

My LG LW 5700's audio is connected to the AVR through optical output. The TV has suddenly stopped outputting 5.1 DD through optical and the AVR is only detecting stereo where only the front 2 channels work.

I double checked by connecting the optical from Airtel HD STB to AVR and there I get 5.1 DD in all the HD channels. The TV is connected through HDMI from STB and the audio output is given to the AVR.

The AVR doesnt have any HDMI inputs and thus the above connection.

My understanding is that optical connection should either work or shouldnt. But its strange to see that the connection is only outputting stereo and not 5.1. This connection use to work fine in the past and it looks like its not working since recently.

Any help will be appreciated !

Check the audio output settings in TV.

BTW, why use TV's optical output? Connect as follows:

1) Airtel STB HDMI Out ===> TV HDMI in
3) Airtel STB Optical or Coaxial Out ===> AVR Optical or Coaxial in

Did you change any audio settings in TV?

easiest....why using from tv...airtel will feed hdmi and others as well simultaneously I think..

Oh I figured this out finally. Looks like the TV cannot output 5.1 from a HDMI source. I tested for 5.1 DD content from USB stick and the TV was able to decode DD there !

In my case since my parents watch content from USB, we prefer having the Optical connected from TV to the AVR. Simple solution I arrived is by getting another optical cable; one from TV to AVR and another from STB TO AVR !
