Some help please

I have a PC with the following config

Processor: i5 2500
MB:Asus P8H67V
Graphics card: Nvidia GT440
RAM: 4GB Corsair

and the rest really doesn't matter for my query I guess.

My Display devices

1. Sony V series 40" HD Ready LCD TV
2. Panasonic PJ PT-AE200

I did the following connection

PC (graphics Card)> HDMI > Yamaha 863 > HDMI > Projector/TV

Two problems that I face.

1. How do I get the display from the PC to fit the display area of the TV? Currently the display seems to go off the edges on all four sides of the TV. Please don't ask me to get a bigger TV:D
I've connected the both the displays with a splitter from the AVR. The display from the Projector is fine with the screen showing the PC display clearly.
I tried different changes with the TV as display but to no result.

2. And even more important. There is no audio from the PC to the AVR. The sound settings menu has, among other output ports, the Realtech Digital out which is the default set. Isn't this supposed to be the HDMI out from the Graphics card? The only other option is Realtech digital out(Optical). Well I tried that too but doesn't work. Basically HDMI out doesn't show in the sound output options.

I searched the HTPC section but couldn't find a thread with the said problem discussed. If there already is one please redirect me and I'll check it out. In the meanwhile requesting your valuable solutions.
TIA
Gijo

Are you on Win7? I have faced the same issue and so have hundreds of others. Go to device manager and under the games controllers section, see if you have two high def audio device definitions. Now see if you have another such definition under the system section. If yes, uninstall the two you saw originally under the games section. Your system should now have no audio output device. Double-click on the volume icon on the taskbar and wait for it to re-install the device.

It should work now, if the problem you had is the same as mine. Hope this helps.

Try the HDMI connection without the splitter. For the display resolution problem, there should be an option in the nvidia control panel to adjust the display to fit your TV. It is available in AMD radeon. Also update the GPU driver. This may eliminate the sound problem.

Hi Bluu
Thanks for the quick reply. There are 4 Nvidia & 1 Realtech HD audio device defs. under the sound, video and game controllers. The system devices has 2. Should I disable all the 5 (4+1) in the games section?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply Baiju. Disconnecting the splitter will take some time as my current arrangement is such. But I don't think the splitter should be the problem since I get perfect audio from my BD and DVD player through it.

Regarding the option of adjusting display to fit TV, I checked for that option in the Nvidia CP initially but I didn't find. Let me check again.

Right now I've brought my PC from my study and connected it to the AVR and I'm on a quest finding mission on whether a HTPC or Media Player is better for me. If I can address these issues I think I'll go for the HTPC

OK. I uninstalled the 5 HD audio devices in the games section. The two in the systems controller section still enabled. No luck.

I tried changing the HDMI cable as well. That didn't help either.:o

Hi Gijo

I have the same tv but 32". I did have the same problem with windows 7. So i went into the nvidia properties window and under the display and resolution I set everything to automatically calibrate and then click apply. This should work.

Thanks.

Connected the TV directly to PC through HDMI. The display part is fine now. There is a new section appearing in the Nvidia control panel in the resolution section titled PC. In that the 1360X768 (native) has been automatically selected. But I have to find a way to connect the PC through the splitter as I have no other option to display on both devices.

But still no audio out from the TV.

I believe you have connected your htpc thru yamaha receiver. So just was curious did you use the pass thru facility of the receiver if it is capable or if the receiver is on and then no sound from the speakers. As per your above comment no sound in the tv I am presuming you have put your receiver on standby. Can you check this part?

Also if you are using xbmc as the front end then make the resolution to "1366X768" in xbmc and there is also another option use full screen window rather than..." make this also false and just check the settings..

Thanks.

Yes the PC had been connected via Yamaha AVR and not just pass through as the Receiver was on and still no sound processed from AVR.
Not I'm not using XBMC.

Will have to just keep tweaking and experimenting.

I had same problem for the display.. using GT440..

In TV use JUST SCAN option.. not 16:9. it will fix it.

for audio try installing any player like power dvd 11 and try to pass the audio thru it..

Video is fine in mine. Just audio. Will try power dvd. Thanks

Gijo, I guess you need to uninstall all of them. It won't harm you to try. Try Googling "No audio over HDMI in Win7" and see the number of issues. Maybe some other trick will work. Sorry if I am being vague but this trick worked for me but I didn't have so many controllers in my device list.

power dvd 11 automatically changes the windows audio setting. so its worth a try.. i got my audio in same way.. but i am using XP and still i was not getting audio..

The display on the TV through receiver or through HDMI splitter still throws the display outside the edges.

I couldn't find the Just scan option in the menu. Mine TV is the old V series HD ready TV. Any idea how we recreate it on the V series?
Thanks

EThere's another problem when connecting HTPC to projector via Yamaha RXV 371 using HDMI cable. The picture becomes blurry and sometimes it disappers altogether. I didn't have sound or video problem when connected to LCD.

What is set as the default audio output device under XBMC settings, gpu audio driver?

I don't use XBMC. The default output set is the Realtech digital output. I reckon this must be the HDMI out as the only other sound output device shown is the Reatech digital (Optical)
