Nostalgic but nice article on mangoes

My 'absolute' favorites .... not necessarily in the order mentioned ...

Himsagar ... Bengal
Langda ...... U.P
Alphonso .... Ratnagiri
Rumani ....... Tamil Nadu

No Langda and Chausa available in Pune :'(

It seems here people are only obsessed with Alphonsos.
(Whereas IMO kesar does a better job)

Langda and Dashahri is available, Chausa is rare to find, however I found them once, the problem is with the storage, these Mangoes come late in the season, and by the time rains start in Pune, and Mangoes dont survive the humid rainy whether.

Folks who visit Goa during the summer season, don't forget to try out the 'Mankuraad' variety. Cost is close to (sometimes cheaper) that of the Alphonso but I consider it a couple of notches above in taste :)

I am absolutely Langda (Maldah) fan. I have 12 trees of it at my home. Other varieties I like Bombay, Gulabkhas, Sinduriya.

But, I can tell you I tested Alphonoso, Dasahari etc. but none of them come close to the quality of Langda.

I suggest you all try this Mango and tell your experiences here. You can get Langda now even in Pune. We are getting in Bangalore although very pricey.

Prevalent prices .. Langda ..

Rs.40-50/kg in Kolkata
Rs.70-80/kg in Delhi

Prices should come down by Rs.20/kg once the harvest finds its 'easy' way to the mandis .. expected in the next 7-10 days.

Mangoes?

Thankfully there is a General Lounge on this forum!
