Not getting 5.1 output

My setup -
Panasonic LCD 32C30D - 3 HDMI and ARC, no digital audio out. Can play video files (avi,mkv etc.)
yamaha yht 196
Philips DVD Player - composite video, 5.1 channel out and coaxial digital out.

Connections
HDMI (ARC) between TV and yamaha AVR
coaxial cable between DVDPlayer and AVR
Composite between DVD player and TV.

Result & Problem
Getting perfect 6 channel out by playing DVD movies through coaxial out to AVR
But not getting 5.1 output while playing avi 5.1 ac3 files through TV's USB port.
showing 5 and SW channels in AVR display but output only 2 and SW.

possibilities
- TV can't play 5.1 channel audio (BUT in AVR display it shows 6 channels)
- true HD audio (BUT I don't think so. It's AVI format file with 720 x 544 video resolution)
- Poor quality of HDMI cable (cable came free with some Sam/sony HT setup).

Please check the TV manual. Most possibly Ac3 5.1 is not supported through USB. I faced a similar problem with my DVD player having USB port. While playing through USB , I was not able to get 5.1 thru AVR

Try straight mode on Yamaha AVR. You will find a straight button on remote. Check the display information on the AVR. If its showing Dolby , your problem is solved else the TV is unable to send 5.1 to the AVR when being played thru USB

Set the avr to use Dolby Prologic/DTS Neo6. When a 2 channel movie is played you will get virtual 5.1, when DD/DTS movie is played the avr will automatically switch to DD/DTS.

Pressed Viera Link. That is an HDMI feature of Panasonic.
Can change audio out to TV and Home Cinema.
TV sound will be muted.
Can control AVR volume by TVs remote.
and getting exact channel output of each movie.
