Old laptop as a dedicated media centre

I have a small doubt.. I have my laptop connected to the receiver thro hdmi And i have bluray rips with 5.1 audio.. But the receiver does not detect the channels.. And no DD symbol.. I use kmplayer or vlc.. Can someone help me with what I'm doing wrong.. Thanks in advance

Check whether your in-built GPU card of your laptop supports the pass through of the formats. Also you need to tweak your sound settings as well. Look at Spiro's thread in this section regarding how to get the HD audio on a PC to the AVR. The same will be applicable for the DD as well as DTS 5.1.

if you use HDMI.. right click on volume icon and select playback devices (bottom right hand corner). in playback devices you will see (AVR) else GOU name listed. select that and click on default device. you are all set.

for VLC you will have to go to audio and select output device and output stream and it should do the trick.
