Hi Friends,

Yesturday i visited a very Big Record Store at Stuttgart, Germany.

The name of the Store is "Second Hand records" Address: Leuschnerstrae 3, 70174 Stuttgart, Germany

I picked three records there, however i went blank after the glance of so many records at the store

I could only remember "Hotel California ( However i did not find it and the store keeper ordered it from somewere which i will pick this weekend ), Eagles

The prices are varying from 4 Euro to 20 Euro

Friends i am looking for suggestions for the Lables which are "Must to have" vinyl records

Not to Mention the Store Keeper was very Friendly

Best Regards

Tanoj

Almost all major German cities have multiple used record stores. It is great place to buy used vinyl. But prices are steep. Then again prices are steep here in India as well.

Yes, I visited quite a few record stores in the United States as well. Compared to online shopping on eBay, these are definitely expensive but the charm of visiting a record store is something different. I have spent weekends at record stores, sifting through the records. Reminds me of my childhood days when Dad and Mom used to take us to the record store. To put some numbers to the mill, generic titles cost about $2 to $5 online, while they would cost between $7 and $15 at the typical store. At times, stores have $1 or $2 record sales but most of these titles are not very tasteful (more of those that never sell). If you go for specific titles from popular artists or groups, you will end up paying between $10 and $30 online, while you'd end up paying between $15 and $45 at a typical store.

That's almost 700 per LP. I went to this Antique Palace in Bangalore (it's a shop on the 1st floor in Unity Building near Town Hall). I found an Indian pressing of Pink Floyd's Meddle there. I asked him the price. He said proudly "4000 rupees sir". I had lot of swear words going on in mind but then I thought ..ok maybe the record is near mint. I pulled out the record and it was in a horrible state! :indifferent14: I just looked at him in disgust.

Worst part about that place is..he prices the LPs based on the band/artist. Nothing else! All Judas Priest, Pink Floyd, Beatles, ZZ Top records 4000 rupees..whatever be the condition!

Almost all Bangalore record collectors knows about him and his pricing. He casually ask Rs. 1000 for common LP's which sometime we may say no even if given as free. Two years back he asked me Rs.40,000 for a Cosmic TT.

Maybe people should pick up 'new' pressings also. Often they are 200gm vinyl and using better material. Most likely the mastering is also better (?). They average around US$20/- . No one is going to buy a huge number at one time.
Buying an old poor quality disc at thousands of rupees isn't worth it in my opinion. Even at 700/- a good disc might be OK. But a new pressing ( supported by good reviews!) at 1.2K is worth more.
But we all make our own choices and opinions will always differ. Suggest you guys go to Singapore to get good discs at much lower than insane prices. The most expensive one I saw was S$40/- , the average being around S$20/-. Used albums were below S$20/-. I think averaging S$12 to S$15 .

I forgot to mention

the Eagles - Hotel California is a new record ( new pressing / unopened ) which costed me 19 Euros

Would it be a problem carting back a whole pile of vinyl records ? They would weigh quite a bit apart from volume. Wonder what customs would say back here ! Some may never have seen a vinyl album ! :)

I have not had issues with customs, as long as you stay within the 45K limit, no problems.

I had even bought back a big lot through cargo, had to deal with customs for that but having some contacts insided helped things smoothly - had to pay only reasonable fees

Yes, hand carrying is the best option. Shipping attracts import duty. I have bought upto 100 records (wife and I carried 50 each) with absolutely no worries. The guys at the scanner did not even know what they were :)

Let me attempt to bring this on topic. Everyone seems to have forgotten what you asked them. What genres of music do you listen to?
